Double Fine Announces Stacking

Earlier this year, Double Fine announced that they would forgo working on a sequel to Brutal Legend and instead craft four smaller titles. The first of those titles, Costume Quest, was released in early October and was generally received warmly by players and critics alike. Today, the Tim Schafer-led studio announced the second of those four promised titles: Stacking.

Set in the 1930's, the game stars Charlie Blackmore, the world's smallest Russian nesting doll. Charlie Blackmore, thanks to his small stature, can jump inside other matryoshkas and acquire their abilities. While you can stack multiple dolls at once, only the outermost doll's power will be available to you.

Stacking will feature an open world environment in which you use Charlie's abilities to solve various puzzles and work your way through a number of situations. The game allows for multiple methods to solve the problems it presents and rewards players for discovering them, thus encouraging the player to try to find different solutions.

Stacking will be available for the Xbox Live Arcade in Spring 2011.
