After months of silence from developer Playtonic Games, at the end of May we got a much-desired update
about their upcoming platformer Yooka-Laylee
. This morning we got another.
First we can take a look at Yooka-Laylee's
official E3 2016 trailer, which contains the first new gameplay footage seen in over a year. For those eager for more information, Playtonic said the game will be showcased at E3 from June 14th to 16th. We can see the screenshots we saw last time come to life with the game's colorful cast of characters and smooth gameplay. Be sure to watch until the end for more "subtle" cracks at the gaming industry.
Playtonic has also announced they have delayed Yooka-Laylee
to a "firm release window" of Q1 2017 for both PC and consoles. Originally, the platformer was scheduled for an October 2016 release.
With regards to the delay, Gavin Price, Creative Director and MD of Playtonic, said the following:
After a lot of soul searching and knowing through dialogue with our fans that they value quality and polish above all, we’ve made the difficult decision to lock the release of Yooka-Laylee to Q1 2017. While we felt confident we could ship the game in October as originally planned, the team has decided that it would like to add a few extra months’ polish to our schedule. Ultimately, this will allow us to release a better game to the thousands of fans who’ve supported us throughout development.
We’re sure some will be disappointed by the prospect of a few extra months’ wait, however the Playtonic team is confident that we’ve made the right decision for the game and that you’ll be pleased with the results when the game arrives early next year.
Playtonic also noted that despite the delay of the full release, the Kickstarter Toybox experience
shown off in May will still be available in July.
Keep your eyes peeled for more Yooka-Laylee
news, which, with any luck, will be plentiful this time next week.
