FIFA 17 Gameplay Trailers Demonstrate Changes

FIFA 17 is the latest iteration in the long-running sports simulation franchise. This year sees more fundamental changes to various aspects of the on-pitch gameplay with plenty of off-pitch additions to speak of, too.

The on-pitch changes see an overhaul to the physical mechanics of the gameplay, such as tackling. Players will be subject to a new active intelligence system that has them anticipating and reacting to action off-the-ball rather than simply concentrating on making them better with the ball at their feet. Chance creation and shooting techniques have been developed with the help of some of the biggest names in the sport to make finishing that perfect chance off in style much more enjoyable. Finally, the set pieces have been improved to give more individuality and flair to free kicks and corners.

Meanwhile, on the touchline, FIFA 17 will feature renders of the 20 current English Premier League for the first time in the franchise's history, with voices also increasing the realism further. All of these gameplay and off-pitch alterations are the result of FIFA utilising the Frostbite game engine for the first time. The changes can be seen in the first of two trailers below:

In addition to the above gameplay changes, EA has been working on giving FIFA 17 a new focus. The result is the introduction of "The Journey", a kind of story mode with a narrative where you start out as a youngster, namely Alex Hunter, looking for his big chance in the Premier League. Choose your club, play under legendary managers, and get on the pitch and show the world your talents. The start of Alex's opportunity to shine can be seen in the following footage:

FIFA 17 is due to kick off on Xbox One and Xbox 360 on September 29th.
