Halo Wars 2 Details, Trailer, Gameplay and Open Beta (Starting Now)

Halo Wars 2 was set to be be one of the biggest Xbox games this fall. Sadly, it looks like it's just barely going to miss the mark as it's been pushed back until early 2017. The good news, however, is that Microsoft has seen fit to make it up to us. Not only do we get two trailers, but there's also an open beta that'll run for an entire week starting right now. You can download the open beta here.

Halo Wars 2 continues the story of the Spirit of Fire, a UNSC ship. The ship moves on to a new Ark after the events of the first game, where it encounters a new enemy faction: the Banished. Lead by a Brute Chieftan, they will be a formidable foe. It's not clear yet whether or not the Covenant will be available, but the gameplay trailer did show some favorite Covenant vehicles and units, so unless the Banished are simply the Covenant renamed, it seems safe to say there are now three factions. If you watch the trailers, you can see the Banished have a different design to their units than the Covenant usually have, which further reinforces the idea we should see three factions. In any event, the open beta will tell all.

The screenshots below are from Microsoft's E3 press conference. They are not necessarily representative of the full graphical fidelity of the game (you should download the open beta if you want to see that!). After all, they're just screencaps from a medium rez stream!

There are also two trailers for you to take a look at. The first introduces the Banished and that's where the screenshots above come from.

Then there's also a multiplayer beta trailer. Remember, the link to download it is in the first paragraph of this article! Get moving, Spartan. The multiplayer features up to six player battles.

Halo Wars 2 is coming to Xbox One and Windows 10 on February 21st, 2017.
