Meet Rainbow Six Siege's New Operators, Patch to Add Tactical Realism Mode

By Kelly Packard, 3 months ago
As is custom with Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege's add-ons, the upcoming "Operation Skull Rain" update will include two new operators for play. Say hello to Caveira and Capitão, renowned as two of BOPE's finest.

Operation Skull Rain Operators

BOPE, known in long-form as Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais, specialize in guerrilla and urban warfare due to their extensive experience fighting in crowded favelas where danger is often lurking around every corner. This is fitting since the new map included with the "Operation Skull Rain" update is called "Favela."

Xavier Marquis, Creative Director of Rainbow Six Siege, said that "while examining BOPE, we felt that they represented another way of interacting with their environment and offered new opportunities for a dynamic gameplay." You can see their unique capabilities in the descriptions below:

Caveira is the defensive Operator of the two. As such, she possesses the “Silent Step” skill that enables her to sneak up on enemies to immobilize and then interrogate them to reveal their teammates’ location. Her arsenal includes an M12 and SPAS-15 for primary weapons, a PRB92 as a secondary, and Nitro Cell C4 and Barbed Wire for gadgets.
As the attacker, Capitão carries a tactical crossbow that can fire asphyxiating bolts that burn oxygen within a certain radius, as well as micro smoke grenades that can mask positions and team movements. Capitão also has an M-249 and PARA-308 for primary weapon options, a PRB92 for secondary, and frag and stun grenades rounding out his available arsenal.

Like the past content packs, the new operators are unlocked free for season pass holders immediately when it launches, which in this case is August 2nd. They're timed exclusives, so after a period of time they become available for everyone else to purchase with Renown or Rainbow Six Credits. If you're not a season pass holder, the new operators will be eligible for purchase on August 9th.

In addition to the "Operation Skull Rain" content, the Rainbow Six Siege team has also been working on a general patch for everyone. The biggest addition is set to the be Tactical Realism mode, created after numerous community requests. Tactical Realism "prevents players from marking enemies, allowing only the timer, compass, gadget, and weapon panels to be visible in the HUD."

Also on the way is a new angled grip attachment and a surrender system. The surrender system will allow your team to forfeit a match you don't see yourselves winning by a majority vote. However, a surrender can only occur before the third round.

One last thing to note is that Rainbow Six Siege is currently free to play for Xbox Live Gold members until Sunday, July 31st. "Operation Skull Rain" will release on August 2nd. Whether or not the general patch will be available the same day as "Operation Skull Rain" or if it will be available at a later date is currently unclear, but we'll let you know when we have more information.
