NFS: Hot Pursuit Community Challenge Results

It's good news...

Most Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit fans will know that there had been a community challenge running until December 12th. In case you missed it, the challenge was to get 1 million views for the launch trailer for NFS: Hot Pursuit on Youtube. The prize? Three supercar convertibles - the Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible, the Lamborghini Murciélago LP 650-4 Roadster, and the Dodge Viper SRT10 Convertible Final Edition - to be released for FREE as DLC content.

Well those of you who were participating in the challenge will know that the trailer missed its target by a fair margin, and stood at only 660,362 views. However, that was an increase of approximately 517,000 views over 16 days; a fairly impressive feat in my mind. It obviously impressed both EA and Criterion too, because those kind folks have decided to let you have the DLC for free anyway as a little holiday present. Here is a post on the official Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit blog to explain:

Oh, so close! The Need for Speed Hot Pursuit launch trailer didn’t quite make it to one million views, but our community still turned out an amazing performance. We'd like to thank you all for sharing the trailer with your friends and making sure that everybody knows that Need for Speed Hot Pursuit is the best, most intense (and VGA-winning!) racing game of the year. So, as an early holiday gift, we’ve decided to give the three convertibles for free to everyone playing Hot Pursuit. Look for them in an upcoming Xbox 360 title update.Unfortunately, the aforementioned title update doesn't have a release date, but we'll update this article when we know more.

Makes it look like they are out to make us happy. This in turn will net them more DLC sales when the next batch comes out when people are thinking along the lines of getting two car packs for one, if that makes sense.

Allow me to complain for a minute... But first good to aree they are releasing it anyways...

As for the idea of watching the trailer to get dlc in a game that's already out.... WTF EA (can't fault Critereon for this when the company that rides the special bus named EA is involved. If we want the DLC we already own the game so the more views don't really help much. Could have between better if there was an in game milestone or an e-card to those who don't have the game, but trailers and trailers views only build hype for an unreleased game.. After release and purchase they don't so much unless you have a marketing metric you have to hit... Then again way to miss that goal I'd that was the plan... And if that's what it was, you release again you did this in a way that foiled no one...

What were you trying to say? 3/4 of what you said didn't even make sense, let alone make a complete sentence.

Anyway, figured this would happen in the end. As much bad press as EA gets already, if they promised us free DLC and then told us "tough luck" since we didn't get to 1 million views they'd have numerous people threatening to burn down their HQ.

Whether it was their original intention or not, we still get free DLC. Something we can't say that often with EA...
