Need for Speed Shift Trailer

Earlier today Major Nelson revealed the trailer for Need for Speed: Shift. NFS: Shift is one of three new entries in the franchise this year as EA attempts to revive the former glory of the series. NFS: Shift is supposed to return the game back to its realistic/simulation roots while Nitro (for DS and Wii) is said to be arcade/casual and World Online (PC) is supposed to be multiplayer focused.

The footage shows a lot of crashes and some poor driving on the part of AI drivers, but shows a general polish. No word on if a nonsensical tacked-on story like the one seen in last year's NFS: Undercover will show up again. also if the phrase "return the NFS series to its roots" seems old, that's because we heard it back in 2007 before the release of the ill-received NFS: Pro Street. On September 17th, Europeans will find out if the game heralds the return of the franchise's glory days or if the marketing department has run out of ideas. North Americans can get their hands on the game on September 22nd. Hopefully we'll see more encouraging trailers and, perhaps, a demo before then.
