The cover of the February issue of Game Informer has revealed a cryptic clue to the storyline of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
. Those of you with fairly good eyesight will be able to make out a series of lettering on the back cover of the magazine:
This writing is the key to understanding the trailer
that announced the game at the VGA awards back in December. During this trailer, singing can be heard in a mysterious language. This language is the tongue of the dragons, a language that has been written by Bethesda specifically for the game.
Translating this text will also reveal the name of the chief villain in Skyrim. For those of you who would like a crack at solving the puzzle for yourself, head to the puzzle page
for your opportunity. For those of you who can't be bothered to go through that effort, here is the solution provided for you in the quote box. Needless to say, if you don't want to know the answer, scroll past the box.
By his honor is sworn
To keep evil forever at bay
And the fiercest foes rout
When they hear triumph's shout
Dragonborn for your blessing we pray
And the scrolls have fortold
Of black wings in the cold
That when brothers wage war come unfurled
Alduin, bane of kings
Ancient shadow unbound
With a hunger to swallow the world
Further gameplay details have been promised to follow; these will be revealed as we find them. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
