Before I say anything about Deep Silver's upcoming survival horror title Dead Island
, you must watch the trailer:
The general consensus in the Newshound staff room upon first viewing was "THAT is how you do a game trailer!" Dead Island
was revealed exclusively to IGN
yesterday, but now we get to share with you what is going to be one of the most unique titles of 2011. Described by the developer as a "first person zombie-slasher/action-RPG", Dead Island
can be played with up to four people using drop-in/drop-out co-op play.
The twist Dead Island
brings to the zombie genre is not only the remote, exotic setting of Banoi in Papua New Guinea, but the emphasis on melee combat. A classy tropical resort is not going to have many guns lying around for just anyone to use so instead players have to scavenge for whatever items they can get their hands on.
Despite your character starting out as a normal, everyday resort guest, the game will include a skill tree and a leveling system. No details have been revealed yet about the intricacies of the system.
Several screen shots have since been released of the in-game action to further whet your appetite for hand to hand zombie killing action:Dead Island
is scheduled for release sometime in 2011, though the publisher has yet to give an exact date.
Thanks as well to the multitude of community members that alerted us to the awesomeness that is the Dead Island
