WWE All-Stars Match Modes Detailed

By Michelle Balsan, 5 years ago
THQ released a plethora of information today about its upcoming wrestling title, WWE All-Stars. Most of the new information focused on the eight different match types which will be featured in the title.

1-on-1
This is the standard game mode. You win matches by pinning your opponent or by damaging him enough that you can get a knockout by using your finishing move.

Triple Threat Match
Allows three wrestlers to participate in a match simultaneously so that you can have your, up until now, impossible dream match between three Superstars and/or Legends of your choosing. This is an every man for himself style mode of play.

Fatal 4-Way
Similar to the Triple Threat Match described above, but this time four wrestlers will be in on the action.

Tornado Tag Team
This mode focuses on being a fast and teamwork based experience. There are no tags, so the pace is kept at a quick rate. You'll also need to protect your partner or rely on your buddy to protect you when going for a pin.

Steel Cage
The steel cage is the "coveted jewel of the gimmick matches in WWE All Stars". Like cage matches in your favorite WWE Pay-Per-View, the goal is to get out of the cage before your opponent, but who can resist taking a dive at your opponent from the top of the cage while he's down?

Elimination
Elimination rules can apply to either Triple-Threat or Fatal 4-Way matches. Players are eliminated from the match when they are successfully pinned or knocked out, but the match continues until only one player remains standing.

Extreme Rules
In a throwback to the old Hardcore Championship matches, players have access to a trash can that contains goodies such as a baseball bat, a crutch and a 2X4 in this mode. Chairs and bells can also be used to attack your opponents.

Handicap Matches
As the name implies, this game mode pits you against two other opponents. It's hard enough taking on one wrestler or fending for yourself in a free-for-all, but this will present an extra challenge as your opponents work together to defeat you.

Several screens were released today as well.
