Konami Announces Birds of Steel

Konami announced today that they will be publishing a new title by Gaijin Entertainment, the developer behind http://www.trueachievements.com/XBlades-xbox-360.htm, http://www.trueachievements.com/IL2-Birds-of-Prey-xbox-....htm, and http://www.trueachievements.com/Apache-Air-Assault-xbox....htm, titled Birds of Steel.

Birds of Steel aims to meld the flight combat and battle theater genres to bring a unique experience to gamers. It will feature the most pivotal air battles from World War II, including the battle of Midway, Guadalcanal, Coral Sea, the historic attack on Pearl Harbour, the Mediterranean Maltese island, Germany’s Ruhr Valley, and others.

In Birds of Steel, you may choose to fight for the Allies, Japanese or Axis forces. Over 100 famous planes have been recreated for the title, including the Spitfire, P-51D Mustang, and Messerschmidt 109. In addition to the 20 historical missions the game will offer, there will also be a selection of fictitious missions which occur across 8 different campaigns.

Given the want for historical accuracy, the game includes a great amount of detail, from weather effects to the damage your plane has taken actually affecting how well it controls. Birds of Steel will allow you to choose controls that are either "arcade-simple" or controls which recreate control systems that offer "total control of every aspect of flight".

Missions are received via a pre-conflict briefing. Your contributions to each battle will also be tracked, and the completion of certain goals will unlock new planes.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Birds of Steel will feature an online multiplayer element. Missions may be done in co-op or you can choose to engage in "massive multi-player online dogfights to see who owns the skies". Team death matches, co-op strike missions, airfield raids, and tournament play will also be available in the game.
