FIFA 12 Aerial Threat Producer Video

A closer look at the improved CPU decision making

Written by DaveKinetic on 25 June 11 at 13:20

EA Sports has released a new trailer showcasing the improved CPU decision making that will be on offer in FIFA 12, the latest iteration in the long running FIFA franchise.

In FIFA 11, a large emphasis was placed on player attributes, making sure in game players mirrored their real life counterparts in not only looks, but behaving as they would on the field.

In FIFA 12, this has been built upon by improving CPU players' awareness and decision making in certain situations. The trailer below shows one example, using two different scenarios.

FIFA 12 will be available September 27th in the US and September 30th in the UK/EU.

Wow, very clever; assuming it hasn't been faked to make the video, though that's doubtful.

I have a problem with this being a little too intelligent.

I for one know that you cannot majorly improve an annual franchise, it would leave a gaping hole for the next game and something you couldn't follow up.

I agree with tsunami though, it's all good making AI smarter and adapt more to how you play but they're running the risk of making them too smart, which potentially could end up making the AI invincible on higher difficulties which some gamers wouldn't really like
It will never be how I want it to be.

And once you have essentially "learned" the system, it's easy to make strategies against it as the computer becomes predictable. These kind of games need more random/external factors.

Sounds good. Not going to lie, I was expecting a low cross. A bit dissapointing to notice that David Villa hardly moved when he could be sprinting trying to get in-front of defenders for a low cross.

It looks like they really put that extra bit of effort in to this title. It's impressive to say the least with all of these bonus features they included.

I for one know that you cannot majorly improve an annual franchise, it would leave a gaping hole for the next game and something you couldn't follow up.
EA leaves gaps in their games sometimes so they can improve on it later. In FIFA 10, the goalkeepers were horrible. They would constantly run off the line when it wasn't tactically smart, and were so easily lobbed over. Overall, it wasn't bad enough that it was game-breaking, but it was annoying. What did they add in FIFA 11? The ability to play as the goalkeeper.

Considering its a major franchise with yearly iterations (and no real competitors), it's reasonable to assume they've got some minor flaws planned so they can keep making this yearly improvements.
