Namco Bandai Games Europe have announced the Dark Souls shield design contest, which is open to everyone through the official Facebook page for the game.

For those interested; your medieval, shield holding, dragon slaying, art designing game needs to be on point, participants in the contest will download three blank shield templates to begin with and create masterpieces on. Once their magical minds have unleashed some beastly unique jaw dropping creative artwork all over these templates, the shields will need to be submitted through the official Facebook page where fans will be able to vote for them so long as they like them. The winners of the contest will be picked out by the Dark Souls development team themselves at FromSoftware in Japan.

Here's the instructions on how to enter:

How to enter:

- Become a fan on the official Dark Souls Facebook page at www.facebook.com/darksouls

- Download the blank shield templates

- Create up to three original masterpieces of heraldic design

- Submit your finished designs via Facebook on or before July 13th 2011

Fans will be able to vote for their favourites on Facebook throughout the competition, with voting open until July 20th to allow last minute entries time to gather votes.

The top ten designs for each of the three shield templates as voted for by you will then go to FromSoftware for the final decision, with the winning designs being announced via Facebook on 28th July 2011.
Each of the ten winners will receive a copy of Dark Souls, signed by game director Hidetaka Miyazaki. The top three winners will have the joy of seeing their designed shields permanently be a part of the Dark Souls universe, they will also receive a signed copy of the limited edition game and even recieve the honour of having their names in the game credits.

The full set of rules can be found on the games' official Facebook page (registered Facebook account needed), good luck to those of you who are entering.
