Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Flythrough Trailer

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Flythrough Trailer

Another look at the Close Range Assault mode

Written by KeithBGray on 29 June 11 at 10:09

During this year's E3 event, Namco Bandai Games released a trailer and then followed that with a plethora of screenshots for Ace Combat: Assault Horizon.

Obviously, Namco Bandai Games feels that the double-dose of publicity in one week was not enough. So much so, the publisher has now turned on the marketing afterburners (so to speak!) by releasing a "Flythrough" trailer, which lasts no less than... wait for it... 10 minutes!

The press release provides a short description of the action, to soften the landing, for those who cannot view the new trailer.

Players can engage in combat across the globe, dodging skyscrapers, and turning their enemies into fiery supersonic debris. The 10-minute video showcases the exhilarating maneuvering, pinpoint targeting, hovering attacks and other features that the game will bring to the fore this [autumn]/fall.What the quoted trailer overview doesn't mention is that the new video gives the chance to take another look at the Close Range Assault mode, which has been showcased previously.

As the above quote suggests, Ace Combat: Assault Horizon is scheduled for take-off on October 11th in North America, and October 14th in Europe. There's still no word on a confirmed release date in Australia, but a couple of retailer's websites do suggest that it will be available on the same day as the European release.

This looks so much better than any other aerial fighting game.
Ace Combat is such a great series, and this looks like a fantastic entry in that series.

Looks good, shame the player character is male only, would have bene nice to let the player choose for themselves instead of the usual generic male.

Still despite that flaw, the game looks good, the music that was playing in the background was very much Ace Combat from what I heard.
Still not sure about the notion of setting in the real world to attract the COD crowd, a pretty overdone idea for games these days.

The combat looks like it's gotten a few refinements from AC6.

Hope they don't focus too much on the cinematics and not the gameplay because some of that looked scripted and repetitive. We will see when the games comes out though. I am a huge Ace Combat fan!

10mins of gameplay and i saw the plane fly through 2 structures, i mean LOOOL, just looked utterly boring untill the guy had ejected, then the movement and animation of the planes looked incredible, other than that, its looks like nothing breathtaking, maybe just a little different with that camera but seriously it need more than just a camera change! These planes are cutting edge gritty killing machines, not wimpy quiet cardboard looking things. At no point in any of the trailers for this game did i think that any of the planes were big machines capable of massive speeds and ripping themselves apart... another flight sim where the developers have failed to capture the very essence of the aircraft.

As for this looking "Boring" and not capturing the real flight experience in the post above...to an extent you are right but I highly doubt any game could accurately simulate that without being so difficult people wouldn't even want to play it. But I'm more than happy with this as it looks really good, can't wait to give it a try after finishing the first one.

Dont get me wrong but its giving me doubts. I know that they can do much better for what they show us in this video. But still ofcourse this is a tut mission as it shows at the start. But I have a strange feeling that I've only felt at games that eventually I really did not like. I've got Over-G Fighters and Ace combat 6 on the 360 but this i dunno...

Graphics looking good and loving the detail put into the landscape! But, this trailer now has me worried about the game for a few reasons.

First, I really hope that those slow-mo kill shots are severely limited or you have the option to skip them all together.

Then there's the camera issue that looks like it's going to be huge pain in the butt get it point in the direction that you want. I really hope that we're given an option to change it.

Last gripe is with the control that you have while flying. Either this game is using rails in the close combat or the person playing is just awesome at flying.

I really hope that this is all just because of the person playing and that it will play a lot better than it looked. I already have this one paid for so I'm hoping for the best.

Hahaha they realy use the same engine again. The ground textures look horrible. I love Ace Combat so i buy it on the first day, but the next one should get better graphics.

I only use this close combat mode for the achivements, as i can see you can play the game normaly like AC 6. Keep cool guy´s it´s an typical action trailer.

I hear something about, that this is a "split off" and the real new Ace Combat 7 is coming after this "experiment"?!

...oh and wait: NO f****** online achivements! I hate this, because after 3 month the lobbys are emty.
