EA Announces Burnout CRASH! [UPDATED]

Burnout goes back to its roots for new XBLA title

Written by Matrarch on 07 July 11 at 22:29 , updated on 07 July 11 at 22:29

Electronic Arts revealed today that Criterion Games is returning Burnout to its roots, focusing on the series’ fan-favorite Crash mode, as Burnout CRASH! is currently in development for XBLA.

Burnout CRASH! invites players to wreak havoc behind the wheel as they crash into and destroy everything in sight. Autolog technology makes its return as well, allowing players to compete against each other to see who can cause the most damage.

The game will feature "three explosive game modes available across 18 crash junctions in six unique locations". As we've come to expect from the team behind Burnout, there will be a variety of cars to unlock, targets to destroy and other surprise features to be discovered.

Richard Franke, Creative Director for Burnout CRASH!, said:
Burnout CRASH! is a crazy mix of pinball and game shows. We’ve evolved the core gameplay which everyone loved about Crash Mode, and expanded the whole experience using music, style and Autolog to create what we feel is the most mindless fun you can have on any gaming platform.Kinect integration is becoming all the rage these days, and, as such, Burnout CRASH! will be utilizing the device. The game will feature a specific gameplay mode designed for Kinect wherein two teams can play locally using gesture controls in a party battle.

Edit: The teaser trailer has now arrived:

Burnout CRASH! is currently slated for a fall release. No pricing information is available at this time.

Oh the memories of Burnout 3: Takedown on the original Xbox with tons of crashes, frentic racing, and one of the best soundtracks in a video game EVER.

Could be good, but I've never played a top-down racer that I liked. Since this isn't so much a racer, I'm interested, but for no more than 800 msp.

Personally I dont see how this is going back to its roots, crash focussed and top down?
I was personally more of a fan of the arcadey racing from burnout 2, but ill wait for the next retail game.

Won't be picking this up. I have a strong dislike for the Crash modes in the Burnout games.

Personally I don't mind the camera angle, but that's just me. Can't wait to get back in to blowing stuff up instead of the arcade racing of the console versions.
You seem a little furious...

Yeah, the camera angle seems a little weird, but I have faith in Criterion. Everything they do is great. Usually I wait for XBLA games to go on sale, but this will probably by a day one purchase for me.

It does seem a little TOO zoomed out and kinda cartoony, but I'm all for anything that brings the crashy fun back to Burnout (the Showtime mode in Paradise was just such a letdown after the Crash Junctions of Revenge)
