New Far Cry 3 Screenshots

Lighting effects look better than ever

Written by N0T PENNYS B0AT on 18 August 11 at 18:45

Far Cry is a hard franchise to grasp. Each installment really has little or nothing to do with the one before it. From feral powers in a tropical setting to suffering from malaria in Africa, the games have never been afraid to mix things up, for better or worse.

However, if there is one staple of the series, it's the stunning visuals and flawless lighting effects used in the massive, open world terrains. These new Far Cry 3 screens continue that tradition.

Far Cry 3 takes place on a tropical setting somewhere between the Indian and Pacific Oceans. If you can believe it, the game world for Far Cry 3 is supposedly ten times larger than previous games.

Return to the jungle when Far Cry 3 releases sometime next year.

10x bigger world? Wow. I hope they go back to their roots. I kinda liked this game when it was more scripted with a very long single player campaign.

Far Cry is a hard franchise to grasp. Each installment really has little or nothing to do with the one before it.Nothing that Final Fantasy fans haven't gone through over the years.

But to get back on topic, I really hope this is good. Far Cry 2 was ok. Multiplayer was bad, and with single player it just missed the mark. You weren't really stealthy (even with the stealth suit, at night and in tall grass the enemies could still find you for example), guard posts would respawn the second you left the area and return, etc.

Have high hopes for this one.

I don't mind the traveling- it's the backtracking and crisscrossing between places I've been to a dozen times that bothers me...
and 300 hours to get all the MP achievements is a drag. Warlord I'm looking at you.

But a straight journey across a huge world would be fun.

Ok I like the fact that it more colourful but there is something about the graphics that make them look worse then far cry 2. They look more plastic.

Wish Jack Carver would make a return, those were the games I really liked back in the day. Far Cry 2 was utter garbage in my opinion, don't see how they thought weapons getting rusty within a couple shots would seem realistic...
Anyway, this one looks really good from what I've seen so far, definitely gonna keep an eye on it.

If it is meant to have 10x bigger world like BiG PaPa ChIlL said then let's just hope it's not gonna be 10x as boring as Far Cry 2.

The graphics were killer in FarCry 2. Sadly that's all I can say about it with the amount of experience I have on it. Something else came out after I started it and I abandoned it like an ugly step-child. Guess I need to get back to it to see if I like the formula enough to get interested in this new guy.
I aim to misbehave!

Am I the only one that really liked Far Cry 2? The only disappointment that I remember having from that game was the lack of animals. I mean, come on you're in friggin Africa! The land with elephants, lions, hippos, etc.

The only thing that I'm worried about with FC3 is the "ten times larger than previous games" bit. I hope that the game isn't ruined by continuous loading screens.

10 times as big world? How is that going to work out on consoles? As for the graphics - even if they'd be the same as FC2's they'd be awesome.

I wish there would be a different setting though - I'm not too big on the whole tropical island thing. Wish they'd continue the trend of rarely used before game settings, like Africa in FC2. If only they'd make a Far Cry with an arctic setting!
right..?
