Ayumi's return gets detailed, as well

Written by Matrarch on 21 August 11 at 09:07

While many of the stories that came out of E3 really weren't much of a surprise, one that did catch many folks off guard was the announcement from Konami that X-Blades was receiving a sequel of sorts, titled Blades of Time. Now that Gamescom has arrived, several more details and screens have been revealed.

In Blades of Time you play once again as Ayumi, a gunsword-wielding treasure hunter. While the island she's exploring is certainly full of many treasures, it is also caught in the throes of Chaos Magic. Thankfully, the island is also full of special powers and abilities which Ayumi can gain to aid her in defeating a multitude of enemies. Using all of her newfound abilities, Ayumi struggles to break free of the possessed island's grasp.

Here's a handful of screens showing off the game in action:

Konami also revealed several key features for the title:
*Richly entertaining characters. From the young yet tough Ayumi the wise and battle worn mentor Zerand more, this character-driven story has a unique charm, banter and mystery all its own.
*Lushly designed environments. Experience huge and beautifully realized game locations, including snowy lands, jungles, ancients cities, temples and sky islands.
*Deep combat system. Unlock 40+ sets of skills, including melee, tactics, combos, as well as the powerful Order and Chaos forms of magic to defeat your foes.
*Special moves change up gameplay.
• Time Rewind allows Ayumi turn back time and produce a clone of herself help solve puzzles, tackle hordes of enemies, and more.
• All-new Dash ability means Ayumi can close the distance between herself and her enemy prey almost instantly, as well as travel quickly using environmental features.
*Robust multiplayer options. Fire up a co-op Campaign or battle in PvP.
Blades of Time, which is being developed by Gaijin Works, will be released in February 2012.

Didn't this already disappoint when it was a movie called Sucker Punch?

It looks a lot better, and considering how painful the first was at times it can't really be any worse. At the least I'll rent it.

Holy shit. I didn't expect this. Ayumi looks a bit older, or perhaps it's just the different art style. I came in here to make a joke about wanting Blades of Steel instead, but I'm glad I looked...

hope it has a more sensible difficulty curve, original went from far too easy, then was all of a sudden one of the hardest things ive played, and a level or two after, back to being easy again....

also hoping that the controls are a lot better, as for storyline, couldn't care less, i'll just play the game, i can easily ignore the plot.

thankfully the graphics look a lot better than the original, i'll probably give it a try when i'm out of ideas for things to play

@DivinexFallout - this isn't a JRPG, just a generic hack n slash (devil may cry style) game.

I thought it didn't have any difficulty curve. It was really easy/fun and the only thing I noticed that was different on Pro mode was that items doubled in price every time they were bought.

It still has plenty of RPG elements though so it's understandable that people keep mistaking it for one.

I haven't played the the first so I'm not sure how to gauge this one. The environments look amazing but I hope it doesn't end up like another Bayonetta. If it has a strong skill and/or adventure aspect I may someday pick it up.

You may have noticed the last game I played, but failed to notice the leaderboards I have listed. I am definitely not alone in seeing Bayonetta as a flashy, oversexed attention grabber, but that is what we call an opinion.

Why is it everytime a game is dissed the person who was dissed has to insult entire genres?
