Kinect Star Wars & Ltd Edition Console Delayed

Kinect Star Wars & Ltd Edition Console Delayed

You better rewrite that shopping list for Santa Claus

Please don't shoot the messenger folks, but yes you have read that title and strap-line correctly. The long awaited Kinect Star Wars and that lovely looking Star Wars themed Xbox 360 has suffered a delay at Microsoft's jurisdiction.

Originally planned to be released in time for 'holiday 2011', Microsoft have balked on that date and have pushed both of these items back into an, as yet unspecified, date in 2012. Speaking to OXM a Microsoft spokesperson gave the following statement:

Microsoft and LucasArts have elected to move the launch of Kinect Star Wars beyond holiday 2011 to ensure the full potential of this title is realized. This move applies to both the Kinect Star Wars stand-alone game and the Kinect Star Wars Limited Edition Console. We will communicate additional timing information at a later date.An absolute blow and a major disappointment for many, it is suggested/rumoured that extra time is needed to fine-tune the title, specifically addressing issues with lagging and flaky controls. More news on the new release date as it becomes available.

Im sure that "to ensure the full potential of the game is realized" is just a nice way to say to make this game not suck quite as bad as it does at this point.

This could be a good thing, if a bit more time in development actually proves to bring some quality motion control to the game. Sucks for those that just wanted the console though.

How does it mean it sucks? Just because it can be improved doesn't mean it sucks.

As long as it really is to make the game better, I'm all for it (just don't delay it too long!)

How bad does something have to be for Microsoft to step in and say.... "We are going to lose a lot of money by pushing this beyond the holiday season, but at least our image wont be wrecked"?

Nice to see things put back again to make sure they are right. Nothing worse than another game brought forward or released to early!

Edit:

OR they have realised that Kinect can do someting they were not expecting it to do and are adding that :) (lets hope)

People usually can't justify a purchase like this (the console) unless it's the holidays. It's not like it's the $200 4GB one...this is Christmas Tree material here, especially if it's going to be a second console. An individual game like this will do fine any time of year but the lack of console will be a blow. Surely this would be featured on generic "hot holiday buys" on the Today Show and what not, and now they've lost that.

"That, is why you fail."

I hope they give it more work. While the initial demonstrations seemed pretty terrible, the newer modes they showed at Gamescom look FAR more promising. Rancor Rampage? C'mon, that looks fun.

The company that can't fix ghostbusters and can't keep the def jam servers up can't produce a game on time?

No, it's better because now the console doesn't have compete against everything else during the holidays. If it's the only thing to buy at the time, then people will generally get that. Kinda like what they did with Medal of Honor. It came out when there was nothing else coming out, and it did pretty damn well.
Done by me.

no, it's the game-play trailers that make it suck. this game looks incredibly linear and slow. i love star wars, but youtube some videos of people demoing it, it looks boring, slow, and all around poor in quality. Even the force unleashed, when released with motino controls for the Wii was poor and gimmicky in comparison to it's PS3/360 counterparts. playing a game does not make you a Jedi.......

Me thinks it has to do with the release of the gears 3 console. Perhaps this was stealing sales. I know I had planned on getting the Gears console but jumped ship when I saw the Star Wars model. I would imagine other did the same.

See above post to prove my point
