NBA 2K12 Reveals Teams for Legends Mode

34 full rosters, plus two more with pre-order

NBA fans and sports gamers have surely by now been informed of the exciting NBA's Greatest Mode in NBA 2K12, which will allow players to unlock fifteen legends to use in other game modes. What wasn't revealed was how unlocking the legends would actually work. Now, that part is clear. To unlock Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, and the rest of the legends, players will need to re-enact classic NBA games, similar to how gamers completed the Jordan Challenge in last year's game.

What all of this means is that for each player in the NBA's Greatest Mode, there will be at least one full, historic roster to play with. In total, there are 34 full team rosters dating from the 1964-65 Celtics all the way to the 2001-02 Sacramento Kings.

A notable exclusion, which NBA diehards will be quick to point out, is the absence of Charles Barkley from his own rookie season 76ers team in 1984-85. The cause for the Sir Charles-less roster hasn't been revealed by either Barkley or 2K Sports. There seemed to be a breakdown in communication and possibly contractual negotiations, but 2K Sports promises they're still on good terms with Barkley and hope to include him in future games.

Which team are you looking forward to playing as?

Dominate with the NBA's all-time greatest stars when NBA 2K12 hits the courts on October 4th in North America.

It's Bryon Russell, not Byron. Only Jordan has earned the right to call him Byron.

NBA is bush league anyway, full of greedy people and superpowers that give some teams no chance whatsoever. Until there's a hard salary cap, the NBA and anything to do with it should be boycotted.

Other leagues are just as bad, but this one is clearly the worst.

If I play with the Knicks, will John Starks lose his ability to shoot in the 4th quarter and any game 7? I can see the challenge for that Knicks team now. Don't let John Starks lose the finals for you. Lol.

I wish Madden would do a legends mode like this. I'm a much bigger fan of the NFL than any other sport or league.

I like the look of that Hornets team. I wonder if the requirement to be able to play that team is to trade your first round draft pick of Kobe Bryant for V. Divac. Good move. Good move.

Those teams look good. Though I am sad I won't get to play as the Round Mound of Rebound. Regardless of that I am excited to play as the 70-71 Bucks team. You have to love the Big O and Kareem being on the same team. Too bad they don't have one of Robertson's Cincinnati Royals teams. That would have been cool.

93-94 Rockets for me.
Huge Houston fan, and that team was stacked.

Had a lot of guys in their prime at that point in time.
Shame Barkley could never get that ring. =(

93-94 Nuggets for me - the team that upset the Sonics from 8th seed in the West.

Mutombo, Stith, Abdul-Rauf, Reggie Willams but best of all Robert Pack - formidable in game dunker.

Any Knicks team is well worth the play too - the 72 Knicks team is a stunner, and that 94-95 Knicks team is dead set nasty.
