If you pre-ordered the Special Edition of the recently released Dead Island (Xbox 360)
, you received two download codes for DLC. One was for the awesomely gruesome combo weapon, the ripper, a mechanized baseball bat with a circular saw spinning on its end. The other was for a new game mode titled "Bloodbath Arena" which isn't yet available to download.
Techland, the developers of the hybrid zombie title, revealed the release window for the arena mode, stating it will be available at the end of September, though no concrete date was revealed.
The game mode will feature four areas to drench with the blood of the undead, while you and up to three friends see how long you can hold out. The details revealed indicate that the swarm of zombies will be endless, so really, you can't "win", but rather encourage high scores based on how many waves you can survive. In other words, it is more like Call of Duty
Zombie modes or Left 4 Dead's Survival game mode, rather than Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot for Borderlands
, which has a definite finish line.
The arena also allows any XP and items gained to be carried over into your regular saved game, and it introduces a new explosive combo weapon called the blood wave bomb.
Additionally, anyone who has already played the game may have noticed a third DLC package, titled "Ryder White's Campaign", shown in the game's main menu. No details of this have been revealed but keep a look out for it later on.
If you weren't lucky enough to get the Special Edition of Dead Island
, you can buy the DLC for 800 Microsoft Points when it hits the marketplace later this month.
