We should have seen this coming. The signs were everywhere. Why did it catch us by surprise? Where did it come from?
It came, from Dead Island (Xbox 360)
It's been awhile since a game has garnered this particular brand of buzz. I was at my local gaming store last night playing a game of Warhammer 40k and what was everyone talking about? Dead Island.
It was the topic of conversation in every room, at every gaming table. For all its faults, the game is a runaway smash hit. This report is for the period September 5th to September 11th 2011
34,095 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 52,603 games between them (1,399 different games).
Don't be fooled over the number for Dead Island
. As of this writing (September 16th), the game has broken 14,000 total gamers. The only reason that number is so low, is because people can't find it on the shelves anymore.
Do you know which game you can find on the shelves? Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine
, which like Dead Island
, is already at a significantly higher number, though it is only just over 3,000 in the case of Games Workshop's latest foray onto consoles. This is the other game that was being discussed at my gaming store, though it was about how the plot is a rehash of the War of Armageddon event from 2002. Rise of Nightmares
, for being a Kinect horror game, has actually done fairly well for itself. Top Retail Games Started
Given the sheer numbers we've seen all summer from the Summer of Arcade titles, Crimson Alliance
being number one does not surprise me at all. Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection
is hanging tough with another solid week of sales. The crazy Rock of Ages
is also approaching 1,000 gamers, which I will be honest, does surprise me. Now had they simply made a game based off Def Leppard's "Rock of Ages", well, that would sell a million copies in a day. Top Arcade Games StartedPocket God (WP)

These are some low completion numbers. Borderlands

has been a reliable part of this chart since its very first week of release. That counts for something when it comes to movie tie-ins, right?Top Retail Games CompletedDeathSpank: The Baconing
is, by far, the least popular Deathspank
title. I blame this on the amount of gamers waiting for a Deal of the Week before they indulge in Hothead's latest title. That being said, with only 665 gamers picking it up in the first two weeks of release, it already sports a completion rate of 12.33%. Ugly Americans: Apocalypsegeddon
, based off a cartoon I probably would have watched in college, sports an incredible completion rate of 28.96%, so if you just want an easy 200 points, well, it looks like that might be a good candidate. Top Arcade Games CompletedMinesweeper (WP)
continues to lead the way. At this point, can we mock those that are finishing it since they waited until after the patch that "removed mines" and made the game easier?
I say we can. Mock away. Top Windows Phone 7 Games CompletedAchievements Won
59,686 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 810,538 achievements online between them (38,277 different achievements).
Sure, Dead Island
claimed every single spot, but I'd like to point out the numbers. Not only are those some of the highest numbers we have seen in the last two months, but take a look at them compared to the number listed as starting the game this week. TrueAchievement reworked the coding for these charts to improve the accuracy and you can really tell by looking at this chart. Warranty Void if Used
