Crytek Developing Homefront Sequel

By Mark Delaney,
In the wake of Kaos Studios being shut down by THQ, the much-talked about Homefront sequel was left up in the air. THQ stated before even the first Homefront came out that they intended it to be one of their marquee franchises. However, after average to below average reviews, gamers and critics - and possibly even THQ - were wondering if it was worth making a Homefront 2.

Recent announcements indicate that it just may be well worth it after all, as one of the first-person shooter giants, Crytek, has been pegged as the team to make the next game in the alternate history series. Crytek, of course, has previously developed the critically-acclaimed Far Cry and Crysis series.

Executive VP of Core Games at THQ, Danny Bilson, had this to say about the partnership:

Selecting Crytek to take Homefront forward underscores our strategy of working with the industry’s best talent. Homefront’s unique setting and storyline captivated gamers the world over. With Crytek’s industry leading technology and legendary experience in the FPS genre, we’re supremely confident that the next Homefront will deliver that AAA-quality experience that players demand.
Cevat Yerli, CEO of Crytek, also spoke highly of the plans, saying they intend to "bring the Homefront world to life in a new and innovative way.”

Given that the game isn't due out for at least a few years (THQ lists it as Q4 Fiscal Year 2014), Crytek should have plenty of time to make the best possible game they can. Can Crytek save the Homefront franchise?
