. That was until Joystiq
managed to get themselves a hands-on preview at the headquarters of developer NanaOn-Sha.Haunt
is an Xbox LIVE Arcade game that will let players walk freely around a haunted house. However, the demo started with the player being guided in a cart, literally on rails, as if riding on a Ghost Train ride at a funfair. As you travel through the halls, skeletons and ghosts leap out at you, and you have to sway from side to side to avoid getting hurt.
After that, players roam around the house using a marching motion. One hand acts as an on-screen torch that lights up the screen, but also focuses on any objects with which players can interact. Naturally, the other hand is used to make the gestures needed to trigger the interaction, such as opening doors with a pushing or pulling motion.
Players will have to battle some ghosts and ghouls. Players are prompted to dodge or duck in a specified direction to avoid an incoming attack, and must then counter-attack with a punch or kick. After a few attacks, the ghost becomes stunned and the player must then use the flashlight to drain the remaining health from the creature (Alan Wake
The game's emphasis is placed more on adventure and exploration, rather than hair-raising frights. These screenshots will give you some idea of what you can expect:
