Welcome to the wonderful month of September! Except that it's well into October and we're just getting the monthly stats. I blame the awkward final day for September and my graduate school course work for the delay. I can't be the only one dealing with school again, so let's take a look at what everyone was playing when they were supposed to be studying. This report is for the period September 1st to September 30th 2011
89,539 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 240,679 games between them (1,588 different games).
Oh look, people played Gears of War 3
. Amazing. Dead Island (Xbox 360)
was also impressive; perhaps more impressive since it is from a studio much smaller then Epic Games. Deus Ex: Human Revolution
continued to perform well, while Madden NFL 12
amazes me with how unpopular it is compared to the crazy, five digit numbers I was expecting prior to its release. Resident Evil 4 HD (Xbox 360)
is the vanguard for a new wave of Games on Demand (GOD) titles that are not quite XBLA titles, but still not disc-based retail releases either.
On the other end of the chart, we have Bodycount
, which sold so poorly the studio has been closed. Rise of Nightmares
is also putting up low numbers, but it's a survival horror Kinect-only title, so expectations were low.Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (Xbox 360)
, Portal 2
and L.A. Noire
will have to start paying rent they spend so much time on these charts.Top Retail Games Started
How many of you bought Crimson Alliance
and how many started it thanks to the Summer of Arcade deal? Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection
is, of course, pretty popular. I'm a Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition
kind of guy myself, but both games are very close in overall numbers, which is interesting to see. Bejeweled Blitz LIVE
was recently reduced to 400 MSP and both ilomilo
and Gatling Gears
were on sale recently. Those three seem to be the only ones on here due to discounts, though the free Doritos duo is, again, on the chart.
Is DeathSpank: The Baconing
suffering due to the lack of Deathspank in the title? I only ask as The Baconing
has significantly lower numbers compared to the other Deathspank
titles. Top Arcade Games Started
So the free title, Minesweeper (WP)
, and the easiest WP7 completion, Collapse! (WP)
, go first and second. I'm far more excited about the different names developers are giving these WP7 titles. Do these titles not scream "Cheap game for a mobile phone?"
Would Gravity Guy (WP)
be the name of a full retail release? Fight Game: Rivals (WP)
going toe-to-toe with Street Fighter
? Of course not, which is why these names just crack me up. Top Windows Phone 7 Games StartedGames Completed
17,590 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 35,704 games between them (1,302 different games).
I will argue that the heavy blockbuster season we are now in started with the release of Deus Ex: Human Revolution
. Dead Island (Xbox 360)
kept the momentum going, with each title sporting very similar play numbers and completion rates.
I love seeing the number of gamers that wrap up titles before the next franchise installment comes out: Gears of War 2
, Halo: Reach
, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
, Battlefield: Bad Company 2
and Megamind: Ultimate Showdown
Alright, maybe not that last one, but the existence of Megamind
on the monthly chart lately says a lot about the score whores among us. Assassin's Creed II (Xbox 360)
must be replacing Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (Xbox 360)
. If anyone doubted that Assassin's Creed
was just as big as the FPS franchises, I hope that the stats each month have changed your perception.
Of course, Borderlands
is just big. With over 80,000 gamers on TrueAchievements alone having taken part, is it any surprise that Borderlands 2
is one of the most requested titles of next year? Top Retail Games Completed
Things I learned this week: UNO (Xbox 360)
has a much lower completion rate (31.49%) then I would have ever guessed. I can only play that game on the 360 as my wife cheats at UNO. She says she doesn't, but I know better. Magic 2012
got a boost from DLC, while Harm's Way
is going to remain here until we get the 2012 Doritos XBLA game. Castle Crashers
is hanging tough at the bottom, which is good for an older XBLA title. It is much harder for downloadable titles to stay relevant year after year, but The Behemoth's side scrolling masterpiece is making it look easy. Bastion
, Fruit Ninja Kinect
(helped by DLC) and Toy Soldiers: Cold War
prove themselves to be the big hits out of this year's Summer of Arcade.
Noticeably absent from the completed arcade games chart? Crimson Alliance
. Top Arcade Games Completed
Oh hey! It's Collapse!
in the top spot.
For a game that was removed from the marketplace, Star Wars: Cantina (WP)
put up a good number. More people also finished Need for Speed: Undercover (WP)
then did http://www.trueachievements.com/NFS-Undercover-xbox-360.htm
, which amuses for some reason, but that could just be the graduate work sapping away at my IQ.
I've heard people say that IonBallEX (WP)
is one of the better WP7 games available, and with its decent placement on both WP7 charts, it seems like the community agrees. Top Windows Phone 7 Games CompletedAchievements Won
106,935 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 4,406,718 achievements online between them (46,574 different achievements).
Let's just move on. Top Retail Achievements Won
Now this chart has some variety! Renegade Ops
just barely sneaks onto the chart, giving us six different titles.
For everyone that scored their first fatality in Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection
, was it Scorpion's "Breath Fire and Watch Them Burn" fatality? I always thought that was the easiest one to pull off consistently. Top Arcade Achievements Won
Out of the top 11 most won WP7 achievements, you can find all ten of the Collapse!
achievements. It makes sense that Collapse!
would place first and second, with Implode!
right behind, closely mirroring how those four titles placed in the "Most Popular WP7" chart. Top Windows Phone 7 Achievements WonTotal TrueAchievements won by Genre
I expect RPG to be on top once Skyrim
hits store shelves. Flight will not be at the bottom next month, not with Ace Combat: Assault Horizon
hitting stores as we speak (or as you read this, however you think of the internet is okay by me, I won't judge.)
Next month we can compare Battlefield 3
to Gears of War 3
and even go back and see how Batman: Arkham City
does when stacked against Batman: Arkham Asylum (Xbox 360)
