TA Gaming Stats - October 2011

By Dog of Thunder, 5 years ago
This report is for the period October 1st to October 31st 2011.

I had a computer issue eat the stats last week since, like a moron, I forgot to save my work. All that means is that you got to wait a week for monthly stat goodness. The weekly stats will be provided by a guest Newshound author and I shall return next week.

I also want to mention that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim came out in November, not October, which is why they are not listed. If anyone complains about why they are not listed in the OCTOBER stats, you all have my permission to beat them with the stupid stick.

Games Started
89,954 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 253,034 games between them (1,647 different games).

It's not a shock to see Batman: Arkham City (Xbox 360) and Battlefield 3 go one and two. Batman had an extra week over the latest Battlefield title, which was a slow starter for its first week, but quickly gained steam and is now sitting high and mighty with 32,000 tracked gamers.

RAGE seemed to finish high all through the month, despite mediocre expectations for a new FPS property and so it has earned third place. Forza Motorsport 4 did exceedingly well for such a niche title, as did FIFA 12 and Dark Souls. Gears of War 3 may not be a niche title, but for its first full month of availability it managed to add over 11k new gamers and that is amazing.

Dropping to the bottom of the chart, we see L.A. Noire and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (Xbox 360) both appearing to be holding the fort for older titles. Will Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood place for the month of November, or will Assassin's Creed: Revelations (Xbox 360) be the top face-stabbing simulator? It's a really simple question, but the odds seem to be high that BOTH will place next month.

Top Retail Games Started

In contrast to the retail titles, no arcade title released prior to September appears on this chart. The exceptions are, of course, titles on sale or with recent DLC. Someone stopped reading after that first sentence and crafted a post pointing out how I'm wrong.

Regardless, Assassin's Creed: Revelations (Xbox 360), NBA JAM: On Fire Edition and Orcs Must Die! showcase the amount of variety present in the arcade chart. A veritable cornucopia of genres are represented, from brawlers to pinball, and even free commercial games.

Daytona USA may have lost the battle of Sega ports to Guardian Heroes, but we will be hearing from it again in this very post. Mercury Hg is available for only 400 MSP, which makes me wonder if it was held back by being yet another XBLA puzzle title.

Pinball FX2 (Xbox 360) is right above Mercury Hg, proving that people do enjoy things for free. I hope those of you who enjoyed the free "Paranormal table" will try out some of the other available tables, because, for only 240 MSP, you can get horribly sucked into the "Fantastic Four table" like I have.

If you followed the weekly stats at all, then Sudoku (WP) being on top is expected. Minesweeper (WP) upset my expected number two, iBlast Moki (WP).

Overall, the total numbers for WP7 titles is higher this month than any other since we have begun tracking stats. The percentage of gamers using a WP7 in the next month will probably climb even higher from this month as the new update rolls out to every region.

Games Completed
16,090 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 32,538 games between them (1,301 different games).

I always enjoy the Games Completed charts the most when taking a look at the monthly charts. Not only can you find interesting factoids, such as the total number of completed games being almost exactly twice the number of gamers that completed just one game, but you get such an interesting variety of titles.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Halo: Reach, Assassin's Creed II (Xbox 360) (!), Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 represent an ever-growing list of early franchise installments being finished up in time for the latest title.

It is amusing seeing both Crysis and Crysis 2 on the chart at the same time. Congrats, of course, for earning the six month anniversary achievement in Crysis 2.

Top Retail Games Completed

A World of Keflings got a boost from recent DLC, while Daytona USA got a boost by being a very easy completion. Above and beyond any other game in this chart, it is UNO (Xbox 360) re-appearing for another month that amuses me.

It feels as if I have written about most of these titles before, but one quick glance at September's stats proves me wrong. After awhile, all of those Kinect Fun Labs titles simply look the same.

Top Arcade Games Completed

Hi Collapse! (WP)!

Sudoku (WP7) on top may be expected, but did you realize it only has a 26.42% completion rate?Minesweeper (WP7) has, in comparison, only a 15.93% completion rate. Fellow free title, Flowerz (WP), must be significantly harder to complete as it only has a 6.65% completion rate. Is it really harder or just a grind?

One final game warrants a shout out, and that is Women's Murder Club (WP), which recently broke a completion rate of 80%. You go girl(s)!

Achievements Won
113,439 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 4,368,974 achievements online between them (47,782 different achievements).

The gaming habits of the TA Community during the month of October can be found in this one chart. At the start of October, gamers finished off the Gears of War 3 campaign then moved on and played Batman: Arkham City. Following a brief introduction to the prison-city, gamers then tackled the single-player campaign of Battlefield 3.

Top Retail Achievements Won

The "Paranormal table" for Pinball FX 2 has the easiest pair of achievements out of all the current DLC. How easy? Both of them are in the top three for arcade achievements.

The interesting number is to be found all the way at the bottom of the chart. The A World of Keflings DLC, which was the most completed game of the month, only rates as the 20th most won achievement.

Top Arcade Achievements Won

Oh, for the love of the King of All Cosmos. I am so very sick of seeing these games on this chart month in and month out. Instead, I shall use this tiny space to mention that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine had a very disappointing campaign, but rather enjoyable multiplayer. Also, the safe word is banana.

Total TrueAchievements won by Genre

Shooter beat out the Batman genre this month and will most likely reign supreme for the month of November. At first, I was amazed that Vehicular Combat was quite so high on the chart, but then I realized that it includes the sub-genre of Aerial Combat, which means a boost from http://www.trueachievements.com/ACE-COMBAT-AH-xbox-360.htm.

That robbed me of a chance to take a jab at Strategy for losing to http://www.trueachievements.com/Vigilante-8-Arcade-xbox....htm.
