Hello fellow gamers,
On March 24th we were proud to announce that the first step in our new genre system had gone live. At that point the system had been in the making for several months, and we were delighted to get it up onto the site. It is only now, 6 months later, that we are able to release the final version of the genre system which adds to the site yet another feature that cannot be found anywhere else - a two level genre tree.
Most of the feedback we received from you has been crafted into the system. While we know that we cannot make everyone happy, the content team have done everything they can to make this system logical and maintainable.
So to put it in a nutshell - Tier 2 is live! You will see each game’s sub genre (if it has one) next to its main genre in the game header. The genres defined by the content team are quite large and they hope to encompass all of your needs. Some of the genres which were missing before such as Action-Adventure - Sandbox Games
or Action - Fighting Games
can now be found and are also fully trackable in the Site Leaderboards
The My Games
page now has the additional tier 2 filter, as does the site Full Games List
The genre tree itself is vast and, as a professor always told me, “Don’t bore with words - bedazzle with pictures!”
The team also compiled some documentation to go along with Genre Tree to explain how the genres have been created - you can read that here:Genre Documentation
If you should have any suggestions or spot a game that you think needs another genre, submit it in Genre change suggestions
I would like to personally thank the content team members that have been involved with setting up the genres and allocating the games to them, it’s been a huge undertaking with so many games, and they’ve put in a lot of work to get us to this point - thanks guys!
Please note - the Site Leaderboards are now so vast and all-encompassing that they are only generated once a day.
