TA Poll Recap: Week of November 20th, 2011

By Mark Delaney, 5 years ago
The results for the most underrated game poll are in and they were very mixed -- our widest range of responses yet. Most of us agreed that all of the games included are very deserving of your attention. It must be noted that due to an error by me, there were two 'Other' categories for a brief time. So, factoring in the votes that went to that extra 'Other' that was later deleted, here are the full results from last week:

8.6% - Metro 2033
21.2% - Alan Wake
8.4% - Just Cause 2
7.7% - The Darkness
4.2% - Deadly Premonition
4.5% - Singularity
8.5% - The Saboteur
11.9% - Mirror's Edge
9.9% - Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
15.1% - Other

As you can see, Alan Wake and Mirror's Edge were the only two games to receive more than 10% of the votes, but many of you wondered if they even fit the definition of 'underrated'.

On a personal note, I have to thank the community for opening me up to Enslaved. After ignoring it for a year, I decided to check it out yesterday and -- wow, it is a great game.

Here are some of your responses behind your voting.

First, the response from the poll suggester, himself. YUNDERSTAND said:
My pick went to Metro 2033.
The reason I picked this game was how different it was in comparison to other First Person Shooters. Over the past few years, (almost) all FPSs felt like the same thing over and over. It was awesome to see something new and fresh in a usually generic genre. I was upset to hear that Metro 2033 wasn't a completely new IP, but after I played it, and played it 3 times more, I realized I stumbled on something great. Never before have I played a game with an atmosphere as great as this one. It reminded me of how amazing a setting can be. I cannot wait to stumble into the icy wasteland of post-apocalyptic Russia again in Metro: Last Light...
Next, another Enslaved fan, FinderKeeper said:
I think all of these games (and others mentioned, such as Lost Odyssey and Vanquish) are deserving candidates... it was a hard choice. The game I played the hell out of the most was Just Cause 2, so I was tempted to vote for it.

But I voted for Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. As already mentioned, it's a combination of things... voice acting, gameplay, graphics... the game is more than the sum of its parts. It's to Uncharted what Darksiders is to Zelda; deserving of the accolades which come its way, and deserving of your attention, especially when the price is so reasonable now.
Finally, Flyboy80498 had this well-written repsonse about his choice, The Saboteur:
I voted for the Saboteur. Very easily a game that is in my top 10 favorites of all time. It was a fresh new take on a very old subject in gaming. I will be the first to admit, it was very rough around the edges. But it was the last game from a dying publisher. They did the best they could do with what they were given (which was not a lot), and they came out with an extremely good game. It was so good, in my opinion, that if the publisher did not go under, it should have seen support through DLC and a sequel. I still hold out hope that another publisher will pick the title up for a sequel, but not much hope.

How they made that game with what the developer/publisher was given is beyond me. An amazing story line, with very awesome play with lighting techniques through out the city as you free the citizens from the Nazi's. I wish more games were as good and as fresh as this one.
It was really fun to read all of the responses because 'underrated' means different things to different people. Is it a critical success with commercial failures? Is it a poorly-reviewed game that you found the charm in? That was for you to decide, as the voter, and many of you gave great responses.

This week's poll asks for you all to use your braiiiiins and decide what the best zombie game on the system is. This should be another tough one.
