More Teases for Alan Wake XBLA

VGA Producer opens up a bit

Xbox's official...guy, Major Nelson, in his latest podcast, was able to have a chat with Video Game Awards Executive Producer Geoff Keighley. During their discussion, they touched on all facets of the upcoming VGAs, including award categories, nominees, and show surprises. Keighley, at one point, mentioned the future of XBLA, stating that games on a downloadable format are changing and becoming bigger, deeper experiences. He specifically mentioned the upcoming, unnamed Alan Wake sequel (rumored as http://www.trueachievements.com/Alan-Wakes-Night-Spring....htm) as an example of how Xbox LIVE Arcade is evolving right before our eyes. You can listen to the whole interview at Major Nelson's blog. The interview starts at about the 32 minute mark and the Alan Wake mention specifically comes around 48 minutes.

If you don't want to listen to the podcast you can read what he had to say below:

I’ve seen the game, seen the trailer we’re showing and even though it’s going to be a downloadable game, it’s not a small game...It effectively is, I think, Alan Wake 2 when you really look at it and what they’re doing with that game. It’s really ambitious, beautiful technology and I think people are really going to be excited about it.Remedy, however, has stated that this game is absoloutely not Alan Wake 2, but that the game will still be "structured like a retail release." Hopefully for Wake fans, that means the core gameplay will remain similar. Keighley's words seem to echo that thought.

Of course, the new Alan Wake game is just one of many game reveals and sneak peeks that the VGAs will offer when they air this Saturday. Be sure to check here with us as we will be updating live throughout the show, bringing you all the game reveals and news as they are announced.

The Video Game Awards will be simulcasted on Spike TV, MTV2 and online this Saturday, December 10th, at 8pm ET.

Alan Wake is my favorite game so hope this is really good because I've never bought a XBLA game before. Also I'm hoping that this is just kind of like a long dlc type thing until they maybe bring out a retail Alan Wake 2.

Like this is a continuation of Season 1 and we can buy them for like 200 MSP each or buy the season pass or whatever they will call it...

The complete season 2 box set. hahaha

Still need to finish the first but it is a good game. If this one even comes close to the first, I'll get it.

This xbla game must be a test to see that there are enough people interest in the franchise. if it would be financial flop well..., let"s say bye bye to Alan Wake 2: Return.

Lol that would be cool but I'm kinda hoping not because there's something about owning a actual disc that I like rather then just downloading it from XBL :P

Nice to see that's it's getting the retail bells and whistles treatment even though it's XBLA title. Now they just need to not release the game the same day as Max Payne 3 or did Microsoft and Remedy not learn from releasing Alan Wake the same day as Red Dead Redemption? Just saying...
