Xbox's official...guy, Major Nelson, in his latest podcast, was able to have a chat with Video Game Awards Executive Producer Geoff Keighley. During their discussion, they touched on all facets of the upcoming VGAs, including award categories, nominees, and show surprises. Keighley, at one point, mentioned the future of XBLA, stating that games on a downloadable format are changing and becoming bigger, deeper experiences. He specifically mentioned the upcoming, unnamed Alan Wake sequel (rumored as http://www.trueachievements.com/Alan-Wakes-Night-Spring....htm) as an example of how Xbox LIVE Arcade is evolving right before our eyes. You can listen to the whole interview at Major Nelson's blog. The interview starts at about the 32 minute mark and the Alan Wake mention specifically comes around 48 minutes.
If you don't want to listen to the podcast you can read what he had to say below:
I’ve seen the game, seen the trailer we’re showing and even though it’s going to be a downloadable game, it’s not a small game...It effectively is, I think, Alan Wake 2 when you really look at it and what they’re doing with that game. It’s really ambitious, beautiful technology and I think people are really going to be excited about it.
Remedy, however, has stated that this game is absoloutely not Alan Wake 2, but that the game will still be "structured like a retail release." Hopefully for Wake fans, that means the core gameplay will remain similar. Keighley's words seem to echo that thought.
