TA Gaming Stats - Dec 5th to Dec 11th 2011

By Dog of Thunder, 5 years ago
I toyed with the idea of simply posting last week's stats. This week is remarkably similar to the point of cloning. Much like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day or Lucy Lawless in that one Xena: Warrior Princess episode where she solved a feud between warring families thanks to one amazingly timed chakram toss, I feel like I am reliving the same day over again.

This report is for the period December 5th to December 11th 2011.

Games Started
16,488 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 23,894 games between them (1,367 different games).

Swap out WWE '12 for RAGE and we have the exact same line up as last week. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is, again, above all others at the top of the chart. This marks the second straight week at the top for Bethesda's latest smash-hit RPG. The rest of November's top titles are all running in a very tight pack with my money riding on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 to be number one amongst that pack in the long run.

Beyond Good & Evil HD is again on top, but while it earned 757 gamers last week, this week it only added 202 to its total. Arcade games as a group plummeted in number this week like Wily E. Coyote running off a cliff. Newcomer Apples to Apples was unable to make any sort of impact, while even the free Kinect app Kinect Fun Labs: Battle Stuff failed to make any more waves.

The rest of the titles on the list were all on sale or are recent, regional-exclusive releases.

Shuffle Party (WP), which I was informed last week is essentially the classic shuffle bar game, is a free game, which explains the large number of gamers that picked it up this week. Hasta La Muerte (WP) and fellow newcomer Ghostscape (WP) both failed to set the world on fire. I did come across chatter on my friend feed that Ghostscape (WP) is actually fairly fun for what it is.

Top Windows Phone Games Started

Games Completed
5,641 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 7,530 games between them (934 different games).

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is still, despite the increasing rate of completion, a very impressive completion. NCIS on the other hand, is not. Now if it actually had the vocal work of Mark Harmon, I would feel differently about NCIS. Assassin's Creed II (Xbox 360) again sneaks onto this list, and someday soon I will be adding to that number; I just have to muster the motivation to find the last few feathers. Is anyone else at that point in a game or two: collectible hunting but just a few left to go?

I imagine those playing LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 have that issue, as most LEGO games devolve into a collectible hunt.

Dead Island (Xbox 360) and Halo: Reach appear on this chart thanks to DLC. Saints Row: The Third appears on this chart thanks to high levels of awesome.

Top Retail Games Completed

I really need to play Beyond Good and Evil HD at some point. I bought it when it was on sale and have passed over it for the last few months. With the exception of that Ubisoft classic, all the games on this chart are again, easy completions. I will bet money that, starting in January, the Great TrueAchievement Score Challenge will be able to greatly influence this chart in particular.

Top Arcade Games Completed

Collapse! (WP) is only 102 gamers away from a 100% completion rate. There is no reason that this should NOT happen. Windows Phone users, make it happen.

I find it amazing that it only took 14 gamers for Fruit Ninja (WP) to make an appearance on this chart. WP games seem to come in either "very easy" or "very hard" flavors, with nothing in-between.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Achievements Won
56,285 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 550,737 achievements online between them (37,799 different achievements).

Yup, this really feels like Groundhog Day.

Top Retail Achievements Won

Again, this is the only chart in this section to provide a decent variety of games. Five games make the chart this week, with the same Beyond Good and Evil HD achievement leading the way.

Scene It? Movie Night: Mega Movies is following the lead of its retail big brothers by having some very easy achievements to rope you in, before knocking you out with some very long achievements that require grinding. 500 answers will take the community about another week before it is earned en mass here.

It's a Me Party! Again!

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Total TrueAchievements won by Genre

While the order of genres has not changed, outside of NCIS bringing up the Adventure genre all by itself to overtake Card and Board, the overall numbers have dropped like so many rocks. I have to wonder if the TA community is actually spending time away from their 360s? Don't you know how wrong that is? An Xbox 360 needs to know love; it needs attention and it needs to be held, or it will get upset, dissatisfied and run off to join a roving pack of feral Atari Jaguars.

Join me someone else next week, when we all gasp in horror at the low numbers put up just before the Holidays. I will be off celebrating Christmas with my in-laws, so if the Police ask, I was with you the whole time.
