Pinball Arcade Developer Diary Released

Pinball Arcade Developer Diary Released

A fifteen minute look at what it takes to make the game happen

Written by Matrarch on 27 December 11 at 16:03

The folks at FarSight Studios have made a name for themselves through the development of their pinball titles, specifically Pinball Hall of Fame The Williams Collection. Seeing as this has brought the studio praise and success, they've begun development on The Pinball Arcade, an XBLA pinball title.

FarSight has now released a developer diary detailing many of the elements that lead to the creation of their pinball games, from securing the rights for the tables (a multi-step process in and of itself) to the accurate recreation of the play mechanics and art of each game. They also assure us that they've secured rights for 90% of the top forty tables of all time, which is a pretty impressive feat!

The Pinball Arcade will be released in January on the Xbox LIVE Arcade. No price has yet been confirmed. For our previous coverage, head here.

Always up for a good game of pinball (even though I know I'll never get most of the achievements).

That's a bummer. I grew up playing these real life tables and while Pinball FX2 is awesome, these classics hold some special nostalgia for me.

Plus the ball physics on these is far more realistic as compared to the arcade-y feel in FX2. For a platform that has dozens of FPS, one would think that more pinball options would be welcome.

I will buy this game for sure. Playing on classic tables should be a lot of fun. I want the Batman: Dark Knight table.

^This! FX2 (actually I only played FX1 as the physics were too unrealistic) was fun to play and had fun physics but was quite far away from real physics, so I can't wait for this!

I've often looked over to people havin' their FX-series/-tables a little jealous. Pinball:HoF was excellent, but... kinda over a some point! Seeing a "FarSight-Version of FX" coming soon brightens up my day! :)

Williams pinball is totally different to pfx2, both great games but williams is more realistic and more of a simulation type game not to mention all the tables are actually real tables...But the more pinball games the better as far as i`m concerned wink

Well I agree on not realistic physics , pinball fx 2 kicks ass but it kills me sometimes the way the ball is moving across the table and I said I don't care about classics because I had all different tables on ps2 , psp, and on Pc so you guys can understand pinball fx was fresh with moving virtual objects across the tables and all kind of little things what made pinbal fx lovable not just by pinball veterans but also brought new audience to pinball games and thats cool . Anyway i said it wrong i still like old-school i would love to see dracula from williams or startrek next generations i spend countless hours on those in arcades not mentioning how much money i spent . I guess that's all
