Demo Roundup: January 10th, 2012 [UPDATED]

Three more games to try out

Written by punkyliar on 10 January 12 at 19:37 , updated on 10 January 12 at 19:37

After the positive feedback from our demo roundup on November 8th, we decided to repeat the process instead of writing individual articles for the three different demos that have been released today. First up we have a demo for Asura's Wrath, CyberConnect2's upcoming beat 'em up. The demo is 674.73 MB in size and can be downloaded from here. The game is due to be released on February 21st in North America, February 23rd in Japan and February 24th for Europe.

ASURA'S WRATH, the upcoming interactive cliffhanger-action game, lets you unleash your rage in two epic boss battles! Experience two of the game's episodes: In Episode 5, face off against the planet-sized Wyzen; and in Episode 11, clash with the powerful sword-wielding Augus on the surface of the moon! ASURA'S WRATH is a unique blend of action and drama. Immerse yourself in this unprecedented take on the action genre!

Secondly we have a demo for the upcoming sequel to the Wii-exclusive Grand Slam Tennis, Grand Slam Tennis 2. The demo is 1.08 GB in size and can be downloaded from here. The game is due to be released on February 10th in Europe and February 14th in North America.

Relive or rewrite the 2011 Wimbledon final match on Centre Court between the top 2 seeded players in the world, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. Feel the true excitement and emotion of championship tennis with Grand Slam® Tennis 2 in this 3 game set. Total Racquet Control allows users to swing their racquet using the right stick, giving optimum feel and response. Play by yourself or against a friend.

Finally we have a demo for the upcoming sequel to Final Fantasy XIII, http://www.trueachievements.com/FINAL-FANTASY-XIII2-xbo....htm. The demo is 1.29 GB in size and can be downloaded from here, but unfortunately the demo is not available in all regions. Check your marketplace for availability. The game has already been released in Japan, but is due to be released on January 31st in North America and February 3rd in Europe.

The unfolding drama of FINAL FANTASY XIII, released in 2010 and selling six million copies worldwide, continues in FINAL FANTASY XIII-2. Explore a richly developed world featuring both new and familiar faces, and an exciting and highly developed strategic battle system. In this ongoing saga, the future is about to change...

All three of the demos are exclusive to Gold members for the duration of one week, before becoming available to all Xbox LIVE members thereafter.

When I downloaded the Asura's Wrath demo, I expected actual gameplay...

Not the demo being 80% cutscenes and QTEs.

Though it was very easy, making it a breeze to go through (usually is when you only have one combo for the whole game) and if you love DBZ, you'll definitely enjoy this movie.

Er. Game.
iHeartSlampigs - Even with all my progress starting Revelations put a hurting on my goal. I'm going to need to step it up.

Don't really see the problem with how the game is set up, I personally enjoyed it because it allowed battles to be over the top much more than it would if you actually strung combos together.

The moves are simple but with the button prompts in battle keeping you aware it's not just mashing B until you trigger the next QTE, unless that's the way you want to go with it.

Either way, I don't mind how the game is set up but if the chapters fly like that I doubt I'll be paying $60 for it simply because it won't last long. Though that box art is something.

Asuras Wrath demo was...interesting o_O
Strange to play chapters in the middle of the game that are actually not really gameplay.

Asura's Wrath was pretty damn cool. Over the top fighting, cool boss battle, and no overly annoying QTE's. Probably going to pick it up when it comes out now.

I think the problem is that most people, like myself, would rather actually PLAY video games as opposed to watching them. FMV games are that way. I feel like more of a badass in Devil May Cry when I finally string together a monster combo than I do watching lots of motion blur and pressing a few buttons.

That said I do find it interesting that we got not just one but two games that are basically just "press button, watch cutscene" type games. I thought FFXIII-2 was going to be more action oriented, not FFXIII with QTEs.
Looking to boost any MP achievements I don't have for any game I own.

No FF13-2 Demo in Germany! Whatever, already Pre-orderd the Game so why playing a Demo if you get the full Game. ;) And Asuras Wrath Demo was great, i like the mix between DMC, Ninja Blade QTEs and DragonBall Epic Fights. (maybe there was also some Hokuto Shinken^^)

You have a good point. But I, for one, sometimes have different moods (for the lack of a better term I guess) of how I want to play. Sure some games have become nothing more than interactive movies, but that's not a bad thing for people who enjoy that.

Sometimes I don't want to have the anxiety of trying to string together long combos but I want to still enjoy an action-packed type experience.

FFXIII-2 never was even talked about being an action-RPG has it? I mean FFXIII has a few battles you had to be kind of quick with the commands and shifts but it wasn't much more than a lot of non-player controlled movement added to a turn based battle system ya know?
Real-time...weapon change?
