Gamerscore Popcast Marathon Registration Underway

By Michelle Balsan, 4 years ago
Good Afternoon, Lords and Ladies of TrueAchievements.

Of course, many of you are likely here to see our achievement solutions, walkthroughs, and maybe even (hopefully... please) our news coverage, but every now and again we like to reach into our community and highlight contests and events being run by our community members, thus bringing your attention to them.

Today, allow us to point you to the Gamerscore Popcast Marathon (GSPM). Briefly, the Gamerscore Popcast Marathon is an 11-month long competition (February 2nd, 2012 - December 31st, 2012) that will put you in a weekly struggle to earn the highest TrueAchievement score against the other teams in the contest. Basically, each week, teams will be assigned a point value based on their weekly ranking and, at the end, the team with the highest ranking will win the prize! You don't necessarily have to be tops all the way to win out.

What size can your team be? What prizes are on offer? How do you go about finding a teammate and where do you register? Contest organizer Sashamorning provides all those details and more below:

Hi everyone! Registration for the Gamerscore Popcast Marathon (GSPM) is now underway! Just follow this link!

Hurry! Signups close at 11:59PM Pacific Time on Monday, January 30!

Let's start with the good stuff. Why should you enter? Well, first of all, it's free... so why not? Plus, all your friends are doing it anyway. Don't be left out!

Oh yeah, and we're giving out a few small prizes. Each member of the top three teams will win:
*1st place: Your choice of an Xbox 360 S console (any region) OR a GAEMS G155 console case.
*2nd place: Your choice of a Kinect bundle OR two Xbox 360 games of your choice (total cost US$120)
*3rd place: Your choice of 1 year of Xbox LIVE Gold OR 4000 MSP (or the equivalent outside the US)

We'll also be awarding various smaller prizes for what we call "Secret Achievements" throughout the competition. You'll have to wait to see what those are!

So What is the GSPM exactly, you ask? Great question! The GSPM is a TrueAchievement score competition running from February through the end of the year. The event is broken down into weekly contests, with the teams with the most TA points earned that week earning more competition points. Weeks will run from Sunday morning at 12:00AM (PST) until Saturday night at 11:59PM (PST)...except for the first week, which will start on Thursday, February 2 at 12:00AM (PST) and end on Saturday, February 11 at 11:59PM (PST). Yep, the first week is ten days!

Why start on a Thursday? Because Thursday morning, the groundhog is going to come out of his burrow, see the bright sunshine, kick dirt on his shadow and party it up! We're doing the same thing!

At the end of September, we're going to take the top 50 teams and level out their scores. Basically, we're going to reset the competition for the last three months so everyone's on the same playing field for those last three months, full of all the great holiday-release games! For those of you who aren't in the top 50 at the end of September, don't worry... we've got something in store for you, too!

So how do you get involved? Well...
*You have to have 30,000 Gamerscore (yes, Gamerscore). There's some wiggle room here, but not much. If you're close, talk to me.
*You have to have been on either TA or Xbox LIVE since December 31, 2010. (Again, some wiggle room.)
*You have to be in a group of THREE. No more, no less. Three is the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shall thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out! Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then goest thou to the signup link and submit thy entry.

Once you have your team ready, here's what you do:
*You MUST sign up for the GSPM leaderboard here:
*Go to the registration page:
*Fill in your team name and the members of your team. Pick one person as the leader/spokesperson.
*Go to the validation thread and post the name of your team. That way we know that you are really on that team!
*The validation thread is here: GSPM validation thread

Any other questions? Feel free to post here! Also, we'll be posting various updates on Facebook and Twitter, if that's your bag, baby!

And lastly, if you're having trouble finding teammates, check out this handy forum here: GSPM Team-searching Forum!

So hop on board, and strap yourselves down! It's gonna be a crazy ride!
There you have it folks! Also, to clear up one potential question, participation in other TA score contests, such as the Great TrueAchievement Score Challenge, will not affect your entry into the Gamerscore Popcast Marathon. However, keep in mind that if you're in both, different strategies will apply, so plan carefully if you want to win the goods!

Also, please be aware that the GSPM, like the GTASC, is not run by or officially affiliated with TrueAchievements. The competitons are run by and are the responsibility of their respective organizers, so their decisions are final! We just love to see the community using TA in such a way and want to make sure as many of you can play as possible!

With all that said, good luck to all of you who choose to enter!
