TA Gaming Stats - January 23rd to January 29th

By Dog of Thunder, 4 years ago
Sorry about being laid up last week, it happened quite suddenly and made any sort of stats commentary impossible to get done within a reasonable amount of time. Luckily, I'm up and about, ready to add some character to this week's numbers, which is good, as for the final time, we have some pretty dull numbers to discuss.

This report is for the period January 23rd to January 29th 2012.

Games Started
17,172 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 25,269 games between them (1,497 different games).

Starting things off we have some incredibly low "Games Started" numbers for you. A total of 25,269 games being started is one of the lowest numbers we have ever seen, which I believe is partly due to the amount of contests different sites are running this month. Just a hunch and I could be wrong, but it seems to be a plausible theory.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations (Xbox 360) is unexpectedly on top for this week, breaking the dominance of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Other then that change, it's the same games.

You have no idea how excited I am for the additions of Final Fantasy XIII-2, up to just over 1k gamers at the time I write this prior to the EU release, and http://www.trueachievements.com/SOULCALIBUR-V-xbox-360.htm.

Quarrel is doing quite well for a "word game." Would you believe that originally Denki, the developer, had trouble getting someone to put this game out because of the misguided belief that "word games don't sell"? Quarrel is about to break 1k total gamers in the next day or two.

Beyond the new leader, the chart is filled with games that were on sale, free or just dirt cheap in the first place (Doom (Arcade) and Sonic CD). Recent XBLA releases have not been faring well with http://www.trueachievements.com/Haunt-xbox-360.htm unable to get any support while http://www.trueachievements.com/AMY-xbox-360.htm has disappointed.

Top Arcade Games Started

Fragger (WP) blew away the rest of the WP titles this week, which is to be expected since this chart is also a mix of new releases (the aforementioned Fragger and TextTwist 2 (WP)), free games (you know which ones by now) and recently discounted titles (Burn the Rope (WP) and Flight Control (WP)).

Is there a next great title for the WP now that Burn the Rope and Text Twist have made it? I am clueless regarding iOS titles since my cellphone can't even text.

Top Windows Phone Games Started

Games Completed
6,177 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 8,363 games between them (1,032 different games).

Blah blah blah NCIS blah blah blah.

Top Retail Games Completed

Harms Way is number one!? WHAT!?

To those of you finishing Orcs Must Die!, I have to ask: how bad does Nightmare mode get? War Mage difficulty was a piece of cake for me but Nightmare is so stressful I can only handle a few levels at a time.

Top Arcade Games Completed

Collapse! (WP) is 116 gamers away from 100% completion. To those 116 of you that started this game but did not finish it, I have to ask: What is wrong with you? Maybe you should go play The Simpsons Game as Press START to Play in The Simpsons Game is more up your alley.

Other then that, I'm curious as to what this chart will look like once the Bug Village (WP) patch is out for all users.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Achievements Won
57,186 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 592,048 achievements online between them (42,175 different achievements).

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Gears of War 3 DLC? Yup, that sounds about right.

Top Retail Achievements Won

One achievement on this chart deserves a shout-out: Dungeon Crawler in Dungeon Defenders. This is most likely going to be the first achievement earned in http://www.trueachievements.com/Dungeon-Defenders-xbox-....htm and, in order to unlock it, one must complete every level. So to you brave 109 gamers, congratulations.

I unlocked the Dead Ant achievement when I was a kid and all I needed was a magnifying glass:

That is a close race between Shooter and Action-Adventure. With the recent release of Soul Calibur V and the upcoming releases of Skullgirls and Street Fighter x Tekken, which are all labeled as Action games, could we see a big shake up coming?

Okay, probably not, but let a guy dream.
