Demo Roundup: January 31st, 2012 [UPDATE]

Bringing you titles featuring the distant past and the far future

Written by Matrarch on 31 January 12 at 20:12

Update: Thanks to Kiplerr for pointing out that the co-op demo for Syndicate is also available now. This Gold Exclusive demo is 723MB, so make sure you have a little free space for it! You can download it right here.

Syndicate is a re-imagination of the classic 1993 Syndicate game – a cyber punk FPS set in a dystopian world where large Syndicates rule and Business is War. In the 4-player co-op demo, team-up to take down rival Syndicate Cayman Global. Blast your way in and utilize your military grade DART6 chip to breach enemies and the environment as you battle for market dominance and your life. Some takeovers are more hostile than others.Original Story
Today, we have two demos to tell you about. While the first appears to be available in most regions, the second is, at the moment, Japan-exclusive.

First, we have a demo for The First Templar. Released in May of 2011, the game currently sports a 1943 TA score, including one 250G add-on. The demo weighs in at just over 1GB and can be downloaded here. This demo is currently Gold Exclusive.

The First Templar follows the story of a French Templar and his companion, a noble lady who has been proclaimed a heretic. Taking control over these two unlikely allies, the player must uncover the mysteries behind the Templar Order, play a role in a grand conspiracy, and discover the secret of the Holy Grail.Secondly, hitting the Japanese Marketplace is a demo for Sega's upcoming title Binary Domain. This demo will go live tomorrow, February 1st. You can read further details about the demo here.

Binary Domain puts you in the middle of a fast paced and intense battle for humanity in robot-invaded 2080 Tokyo. Work with your team, think on your feet and give the machines an unexpected ending. Be human, be unpredictable.

The Resident Evil 5 Demo was japanese only but you could download it and put in on disc to play here in the states. I imagine you can do the same with this one...
MH The Rockstar - Finally got around to watching The Avengers (I know, only a year or so late). Thoroughly enjoyed it.

I wanted to try the First Templar - I don't think it got good reviews but a demo is better late than never I guess.

What's the point in releasing a demo for a 9 month old game that got middling reviews? Seems like more trouble than it's worth for the developer.

Played the First Templar - can tell that it's a "budget" game but I enjoyed it...reasonable story and simple gameplay make for a good relaxing enjoying game. I'd recommend it.

Just played through The First Templar and I would avoid. Also, when played in co-op, only the host gets the 'complete game' achievements - farsical.

TFT Game is poor, its made for 6 year old Childs, press X and block some times.
And its totally linear and has nothing to explore or even to loot/farm what ever!

Maybe a good game for G-Whores but i stay away from it. ;)

The First Templar has all the characteristics of a bad game but somehow keeps you interested long enough to finish it. Simple, linear, and somehow fun enough.

Syndicate demo froze my xbox twice already. Seemed pretty laggy too. There's nothing amazing in it in my opinion. Pretty much regular shooter with upgradeable abilities and weapon improvements. You also have to hold left button now and then for different actions... yawn-a-roonie.
The wobbly version of the original soundtrack gives me shivers...terrible.

But still, as a big fan of the original Syndicate, I'm going to wait and see how the final game shapes up and what kind of reviews it gets.
