2K Announces MLB 2K12/NBA 2K12 Combo Pack

Sports games at a discount!

Written by osubluejacket on 08 February 12 at 15:50

Many gamers enjoy banging on yearly sports releases, and, in most cases, they're well within their rights to do so. Why pay $60 for a roster update and minimal gameplay changes, right?

Fortunately, 2K is offering gamers a pretty sweet deal this spring by offering up a combo pack by bundling the award-winning NBA 2K12 with their upcoming Major League Baseball 2K12 for the low-low price of $69.99 (details on international pricing and availability were not available at the time of writing).

NBA 2K12 was one of the best sports games of last year, garnering a 90 from Metacritic and a 4.5 rating from our gamers on TA.

The MLB 2K12/NBA 2K12 Combo Pack will be released exclusively for the Xbox 360 on March 6th, 2012, the same day as Major Leage Baseball 2K12's solo release.

This is so freaking cool! Way better than any Special Edition of a game. For 10 bucks more you get a whole other game! I don't even like baseball much, but I may just have to do this since I still only have NBA 2K11, and baseball games are the one sports game my brother and I don't have.

Such a good idea to push sales in a year where the lockout affected NBA 2K12.

Wow, that's cool. $35 per game is solid, especially if you're planning to buy MLB anyway. This reminds me a bit of when they retailed their last NFL title for $19.99 at launch. There's not much need to wait for a sale when the price is already great.

I don't think server closures have been an issue with 2k games. Mainly, it's just EA that shuts down online service for any low-traffic game (sports, FPS, etc).

While they've managed to keep a game like All-Pro Football up, the NBA 2K series have some unobtainables now due to server closure. I'm sure there are other examples, I've just encountered those personally.

And to the guy who says sports games suck, grow up. The older I get, the more I enjoy sports games. In my late teens-early twenties, I loved sinking hours upon hours into RPGs and other time-consuming genres. Now, I'm more likely to boot up and finish a game in a franchise mode when I have limited time to play.

But, I'm just one example and I recognize that not everyone shares my preferences. Regardless of your genre preference, you can't deny the impact games have had on teaching their respective games to fans. I never liked watching sports (or really playing sports) growing up, but as soon as I got into sports games and learned the rules and strategies then watching became a whole new experience with understanding.

Besides, saying that sports games should be discontinued is like saying RPGs should be discontinued. With games focusing more on multi-year franchises and player creation modes over the past decade, they truly have evolved into a style of RPG. All of the different stats and the incorporation of those stats is in and of itself a coded "dice roll". Instead of being narrow-minded and trolling for comments, just appreciate the fact that sports games have introduced gaming to a large population of people that otherwise may never have found gaming as a hobby...because really, the more gamers there are, the better it is for every genre! :-)

Too bad 2K doesn't make a good baseball game.
If there baseball games didn't suck then they wouldn't need to bundle it.
Of course, I'll reserve judgement until the reviews are in.

Good deal if you like to play your sports games offline. Yes they have online options...but historically 2K sports has the worst servers in sports gaming. Unfortunately many game reviewers refuse to report this, I guess they like to play solo...(for instance Game informer gave NBA 2K12 a 9.5 rating, but in their last magazine NBA 2K12 was listed under the top 10 disapointments of 2011-2012, they rated NBA 2K12 8th for the "NBA 2K12 online disaster". WTF! Be ready for major headaches online with both of these titles...disconnects, ranked matches not counting etc., but If you don't care about playing sports games online with or against friends...or to compete online...you'll be fine. I'm telling you ladies and gentlemen...it's an extremely frustrating process.facepalm

This looks like a good deal and I might consider it as long as MLB 2K12 is solid. I've heard a lot of complaints about 2K11 so I stayed away. Hopefully this one is better and I can finally play a baseball game on the 360.
