Back on the last generation of games, Luxoflux and Activision released a pair of games in a series called True Crime
, you may remember them. They were open-world crime dramas similar to Grand Theft Auto
, except you played as the police. A few years back, Activision announced plans to release the next game in the series with True Crime: Hong Kong
for the current-gen systems, only to later cancel it and focus on other projects. At the time, they stated the game wasn't what they wanted it to be in order for them to compete with other games in the genre.
However, Square Enix loved what they saw of it so much that they bought the rights
to the game. They didn't buy the whole series though, so while the game may or may not look like a True Crime
game, the True Crime
series, as a whole, still belongs to Kotick & company.
In celebration of officially re-announcing the game, which will now be called http://www.trueachievements.com/Sleeping-Dogs-xbox-360.htm
, Square Enix has released this trailer. There is no gameplay video, so there's no telling what the final product will play like just yet. What the trailer does provide, however, is story and a stylishly violent tone that may end up in the game.
Originally, when the game's title leaked not long ago, people who followed the industry guessed the game would be a new Kane & Lynch
bloodbath, but now we know that isn't the case. What do you think? Are you hoping the game retains the gameplay of a True Crime
game, or are you looking for something different now that the game has been given a restart?Sleeping Dogs
is tentatively scheduled for release sometime in the second half of 2012.
