2K Games is venturing into dangerous territory. No, I don't mean the rubble of wartorn Dubai, I mean the land of new intellectual properties. The video game industry thrives off of sequels and remakes, which is sometimes an unfortunate truth. It's tough to sell a new IP, but when it's done right, you've set up your studio for years of lucrative opportunities. Recently we've seen games like http://www.trueachievements.com/Borderlands-xbox-360.htm
make a name for themselves and gain high enough praise to spawn sequels. 2K is surely hoping to hit that mark with their new game, Spec Ops: The Line
. Sure, the series has been around for a while, but it's been on a decade-long hiatus and this is its first foray into current-gen gaming. Really, for all intents and purposes, this is a new IP for 2K, especially since it's in one of the most competitive genres in the business.
Today, the release date for their game was finally announced. You can gear up for the game's release on June 26th in North America and June 29th in Europe. Along with that news comes this new trailer that shows off the multiplayer pre-order incentives.
In case you can't watch the video, the pack includes:
-Twice the amount of experience points during the first week of play, enabling gamers to expedite character ranking
-The AK-47 weapon will unlock at rank one
-The “Officer Class” will unlock at rank one. This character class includes several team-based advantages, such as reducing damage to teammates and increasing the effectiveness of other classes
-Access to the “FUBAR Pack,” which contains exclusive accessories allowing players to customize their characters with unique and visually distinctive items.
With a story-driven campaign mode and a class-based multiplayer, Spec Ops: The Line
hopes to stand out form the pack of military shooters this summer.
