Codemasters' F1 2012 Set to Race In This September

Codemasters' F1 2012 Set to Race In This September

Featuring another new feature!

Written by KeithBGray on 16 March 12 at 23:51

And they're off... or at least they will be, when some of the world's best drivers hit the grid on the opening weekend of the 2012 FIA Formula One World Championships in Australia, this weekend. Codemasters has taken advantage of this opportune time to announce that the third iteration in its "award-winning, multi-million selling" F1 simulation franchise is set to start on pole position worldwide this September.

F1 2012 will follow in the slipstream of F1 2011 and F1 2010, by bringing the speed, skill and prestige of Formula One racing to our favourite console. You may remember that the developer/publisher brought new features to F1 2011, following feedback from gamers regarding elements which were 'missing' from F1 2010. Similarly, Codemasters appears to be introducing further enhancements to the latest instalment, in the form of a new game mode. The Young Driver Test mode "will take players even closer to the experience of becoming a Formula One driver". The aim is to provide gamers with tutorials, explaining various aspects of F1 racing, in order to allow them to gain a greater understanding of the sport.

The following video showcases footage shot at the Yas Marinas Circuit in Abu Dhabi, where upcoming, future talents discuss how they feel games, like F1 2012, help them to improve their racing skills.

If you can't view the above video, a couple of the drivers have provided their insights.

Firstly, Sam Bird, who test drives for the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team, explains the impact of the new game mode:
I think Codemasters have done a super job of giving regular people a proper insight into what a FORMULA ONE car is likeScuderia Toro Rosso's Stefano Coletti, states that video games can have a positive impact on real-life racing:
When I came to Abu Dhabi I couldn’t go to the simulator so I switched on the videogame and started to play. It actually worked because when I got here I felt like I’d already driven [the circuit]. It was my first race in GP2, first ever time in GP2, and I won in my first race so it actually helpedThe Young Driver Test mode is not the only new addition to the franchise. In fact, F1 2012 will also include the all-new US Grand Prix from the brand-new circuit in Austin, Texas. In addition, the latest title will witness the German Grand Prix, as it returns to Hockenheim.

F1 2012 is set to be available on both Xbox 360 and PC formats upon release.

How are these games anyway? Been wanting to try them out for a while now but not sure if they are more for the hardcore racer /F1 fan or good for even the mediocre racer

Not too difficult if you have the time...if you are playing on easy there are racing lines and braking lines and predictable AI, i'd say a 4 or 5/10 for F1 2010 if you don't usually play racing games

I really hope they plan on adding a lot more other than this and the Austin track... I've watched enough F1 racing to not need what seems like a glorified tutorial and explanation of the sport...

I loved F1 2010 but i hated the fact it had online achievements (don't like online racing) therefor i didn't purchase F1 2011. If F1 2012 has online achievements i'm not getting that either.
Trying to increase completion percentage.

They need to launch F1 games near the start of the season instead of near the end.

makes no sense not to get the game just cause of online achievements, this is a website with boosting sessions after all, why not use the feature?
