Harmonix Reveals Rock Band Blitz

Harmonix revealed to G4's X-Play today that the newest addition to the Rock Band family will not involved any rhythm peripherals at all. The upcoming XBLA title will instead play like the PSP's Rock Band Unplugged or, for you old-schoolers, Harmonix's earliest PS2 offerings, Amplitude and Frequency. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the room Rock Band Blitz.

Rock Band Blitz

Instead of using instruments, you'll have to deal with four tracks, each of which correspond to an instrument. Within those tracks, you have to press buttons in time with the rhythm to lock that beat or riff in before switching to the next track. If this doesn't make a whole lot of sense to you, you can check out the video of the game currently only available at G4's site.

Rock Band Blitz will include 25 tracks. Now, before anyone says anything about that being a fairly small list, there are two other things you need to know. First, the 25 songs in Blitz may be ported to Rock Band 3, and second, your entire Rock Band music library (as it appears in Rock Band 3 presumably, so excluding the songs that couldn't be exported from other Rock Bands) may be used in the XBLA title. That's right, you will actually have access to thousands of tracks in Rock Band Blitz when it arrives on XBLA this Summer.
