The Summer Athletics
franchise released two annual instalments in 2008 and 2009. In 2010, the franchise released a game with a slightly different name: Summer Challenge: Athletics Tournament
. A disappointing reception meant that a 2011 instalment never materialised. Publisher PQube has decided that with the 2012 Olympics fast approaching, now would be the perfect time to try and revive the franchise. This latest instalment is now simply titled Athletics Tournament
The Summer Challenge career mode returns with 20 different events: 100, 200, 400, 1500 metre sprints, 110 metre hurdles, Javelin, Discus, Shot Put, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Pole Vault, Hammer Throw, High Jump, Fencing, 50m Recurve Archery, 70m Compound Archery, 100m Freestyle Swimming, Diving, 100m Butterfly Swimming and Gymnastics. Each event will have individual difficulty levels and online leader boards.
Multiplayer takes the form of four player local split screen and a variety of online modes, although details on these are yet to be revealed.Athletics Tournament
