TA Gaming Stats - May 7th to May 13th 2012

By Dog of Thunder,
Considering we have the yearly stats up, is anyone really interested in the Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition stats? As the fastest selling game in XBLA history, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, destroyed every other game in existence this week.

This report is for the period May 7th to May 13th 2012.

Games Started
25,860 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 37,419 games between them (1,555 different games).

The only week that had fewer retail games started than this one, was January 16th to January 22nd. That was also the week I basically took off from writing anything as after the haiku post the week before ("Best news post ever" - TrueAchievement), I was effectively burnt out on writing much ado about nothing.

Oddly enough, the following games were also on the chart back in the middle of January: Assassin's Creed: Revelations, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Battlefield 3, Batman: Arkham City (Xbox 360) and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Sniper Elite V2 holding the top spot again does not surprise me as it is still the newest retail title. Yes, last week saw no new retail titles, so let's just move on.

Top Retail Games Started

I like to imagine that Notch, the creator of Minecraft, has a giant vault made out of polygonal bricks filled with Spanish doubloons that he dives into like Scrooge McDuck. That 10,411 whom started Minecraft? It's over twice as many as started the entire Retail Top 10 this week.

Spoiler: Minecraft swept the top Arcade achievements for this week.

The Walking Dead (Xbox 360) is actually close to Minecraft in terms of overall numbers, as Telltale's latest is sitting pretty with 9,583 total gamers. Trials Evolution has over 20k total gamers and is the former title holder of "fastest selling XBLA title in history".

Top Arcade Games Started

Feed Me Oil (WP) just sounds dirty. Not in the Fruit Ninja (WP) way of "I really need to find some nuts to slap around" dirty, but just icky and sticky dirty.

Shuffle Party (WP) and Angry Birds (WP) would get some comments from me regarding how many gamers played them this week, but I'm pushing 30 and some things are no longer funny as you age.

Except farts. Farts are always funny.

Top Windows Phone Games Started

Games Completed
7,728 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 10,675 games between them (1,142 different games).

This chart might as well say "No one really finished any retail games".

Top Retail Games Completed

Everyone was busy finishing off arcade games!

If I wasn't burnt out from the amount of feature writing I had to get done for this weekend, I'd do some research regarding the largest gap between number one and number ten over the past year. One thousand and eight gamers is a petty substantial gap.

Top Arcade Games Completed

Yeesh, Minecraft laughs at these numbers.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Achievements Won
54,262 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 725,302 achievements online between them (43,905 different achievements).

Over ten times the number of gamers unlocked the lowest ranked XBLA achievement this week than those that unlocked the number one retail achievement. Nothing else says that we're in a slow week like Sniper Elite V2 sweeping this chart for the second week in a row.

Top Retail Achievements Won

Oh look, here's the absolutely insane numbers we've been looking at all week regarding Minecraft. Not bad for a $20 XBLA title.

Top Arcade Achievements Won

Oh right, the top Windows Phone game sweeps the chart. Next!

Sorry, I do want to smack myself for typing that, but it's just so easy to be punny!
