TA Gaming Stats - May 14th to May 20th 2012

By Dog of Thunder, 4 years ago
This week of stats is Payne-ful.

Yeah I know, I feel bad about typing that sentence out. Part of me can not wait for the Max Payne 3 hype train to be over so I don't have to read articles using that line. Sadly, judging by these stats, Max Payne 3 will be with us for quite awhile.

Maestro, bring me this week's stats!

This report is for the period May 14th to May 20th 2012.

Games Started
21,125 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 31,737 games between them (1,614 different games).

Rockstar, for all their faults, winds up churning out some high quality products. Fellow Rockstar May release, Red Dead Redemption was a hit, late April release http://www.trueachievements.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV-xbo....htm was also a hit. Now? Max Payne 3 is a hit. This time of year belongs to Rockstar and no one else should even bother attempting to go against them.

Of course, if you do decide to go against Rockstar, they'll just put you down like fellow new release, Game of Thrones. Here I thought the latest title from the same guys behind http://www.trueachievements.com/Blood-Bowl-xbox-360.htm would be a hit. Go figure.

So, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II? Yeah, that happened. Instead of writing more about Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, which for the record will be the most popular XBLA title since we started tracking stats in about two more days, I'll instead share with you kiddies of when Sonic was awesome.

Let's see Minecraft guy have his own Saturday morning cartoon!

Speaking of Saturday morning cartoon's though, another title on this chart had one!

Part of me is amazed it took this long for Dragon's Lair to hit the 360.

Top Arcade Games Started

In another era, Angry Birds (WP) would have had a Saturday morning cartoon by now. geoDefense Swarm (WP) is amazing as it is a sequel to another WP title, and has been well-received, giving us one of our first WP only franchises. Congrats to the developer, Critical Thought Games for having success with the black sheep of the Microsoft family.

Feed Me Oil (WP) has now broken 1k total gamers, while Wordament (WP) broke 4k total gamers.

Top Windows Phone Games Started

Games Completed
7,977 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 11,005 games between them (1,203 different games).

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 had more DLC released, so again, we celebrate it getting completed left and right. Asura's Wrath also had ~BURST!~ some DLC released recently which ~BURST!~ means it gets a brief moment in the ~BURST!~ sun.

I honestly have no idea what Halo: Reach is doing back on this chart, other then it was a slow week for completions.

Top Retail Games Completed

Ah, Harms Way, so we meet again. No no, I don't want you to talk, I want you to DIE!

Ahem. Sorry. At least this is a collection of some rather high quality completions outside of the aforementioned Doritos title and Voice Studio. Fez amazes me each time I see it here, only because everything I have heard about that game is how crazy the puzzles become towards the end. Likewise Trials Evolution, which strikes me as another really cool completion to have in your trophy case.

Top Arcade Games Completed

I'm almost 100% sure that we have seen all of these games in the chart a few times now, except for the two latest releases, Feed Me Oil and geoDefense Swarm. With the two obvious exceptions, WP completions and XBLA completions are almost in sync this week.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Achievements Won
49,933 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 618,837 achievements online between them (51,708 different achievements).

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 broke up the Max Payne 3 party. Gone are the days when a piece of DLC for a Call of Duty title would dominate this list.

Top Retail Achievements Won

Nothing to see here, move along!

Top Arcade Achievements Won

Again, I'm actually excited about seeing a WP sequel do so well with the community.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Total TrueAchievements won by Genre

Simulation still has yet to drop back to its usual place at the bottom of the chart. Role-playing, with the release of http://www.trueachievements.com/Dragons-Dogma-xbox-360.htm is likely to rise.

If you haven't seen it already, I did indeed post a Year In Review retrospective for the past year of stats.

Join me next week when it's all Tom Clancy, all the time.
