Ubisoft Announces Achievement Rewards

Ever wish you could get a little more buzz from your fix?

For most of us, that little ba-doop and the words "Achievement Unlocked" have sufficed to feed our insatiable addiction for gamerscore. But what if you could push that high just a little bit higher? What if you could actually get some sort of tangible reward for all that hard (or not-so-hard) work you put into your gaming jones?

Ubisoft says, "Yes, you can!"

With the recent release of Assassin's Creed II, Ubisoft is rolling out a new service called Uplay. This service will, among other things, reward Xbox360, PS3 and PC players with in-game items and special features.

Assassin's Creed II for example, has four achievements that will credit you with up to 100 total Uplay points which can then be used to purchase such items as extra throwing knives, an Altair costume, a console theme and a bonus map. If none of these cool choices float your rubber ducky, you can bank your points and save up to purchase future Ubisoft games.

Upcoming games from Ubisoft that will include Uplay points include Splinter Cell: Conviction and Ruse. Each game seems to feature 100 total Uplay points up for grabs, along with 100 points worth of rewards to purchase. Wow, how clever is that?

Not to harsh your buzz, but the service is still in beta as of now. Later features of the Uplay service are to include a social network, game help and a shop.

Geez, rewarding gamers for their loyalty and their business! What an excellent idea! Why didn't anybody think of this before? Hopefully Ubisoft will stand fully behind this program and follow through. It would be a real buzz-kill for gamers to suffer through the DT's of yet another broken promise.
