Warner Brothers Interactive and Monolith Productions today announced Guardians of Middle-Earth, a five-on-five Multiplayer Battle Arena (MOBA) game that also tie-ins to the upcoming The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey film.

The game will feature over 20 characters, including the likes of Gandalf, Sauron, Gollum and Thráin, with more set to release just before the release of the film. Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President of Production and Development at Warner Brothers Interactive, said:

The MOBA genre is wildly popular with PC players and we are excited to bring it to consoles through the lore of Middle-earth. The heroes and villains of Middle-earth are crafted in a way that perfectly intersects with MOBA game features, allowing the development team to create guardians with deep skills and abilities for gamers to master.
Guardians of Middle-Earth is set to release in the Fall of 2012 at a price of 1200MSP.
