Resident Evil 6 E3 Character Screenshots

Resident Evil 6 hopes to revive the survival-horror genre that seems to be slowly ebbing away. A new threat, the highly-virulent C-Virus, is posing a threat all over the world as our heroes travel from North America to the Chinese city of Lanshiang via the eastern European state of Edonia. Three interwoven story threads bring six characters together in pairs, allowing for either single player or co-op multiplayer both online and offline. The first pair is Leon S. Kennedy and US government agent Helena Harper:



The second pair is BSAA members Chris Redfield and Piers Nivans:






The third pair is Sherry Birkin and son of Albert Wesker, Jake Muller.








At times during the campaign, the storylines will intertwine to bring four characters together. At this point, a new Crossover mechanic allows up to four players to take part in the action online.







Presidential aide Derek Simmons is making an appearance. He has vowed to track down Leon and make him account for the death of the president:



Ada Wong will also be joining the game's cast, but her part is shrouded in mystery. Does she have ties to the mysterious Neo-Umbrella?



With all of that talk regarding the human characters, what about the enemies? Well, ordinary Zombies make a return, although they can now run, jump at players and use weapons. The J'avo that are prominent in Eastern Europe can now regenerate when they are injured. If they take substantial damage to a limb or other body part, they can mutate that part into a "variety of different forms". The final enemy types have arisen from the C-Virus itself. Chrysalide mutate even further than the J'avo as they metamorphose into a variety of creatures, one of which is the Ustanak:



Resident Evil 6 is due to be released on October 2nd, 2012.
