VGA's overload with new and exclusive trailers

Written by zigs00 on 13 December 09 at 18:51

Trailers galore! Last night's Spike TV VGAs was filled to the rafters with exclusive and world première trailers, so I thought I'd compile a news post for them all, and help keep all this masses on information concise. Make sure you've got your bandwith free, these are all in glorious HD:

Batman: Arkham Asylum 2 -

First up was the announcement and teaser trailer for Rocksteady's sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum. The trailer shows chaos throughout the streets of Gotham City (apparently the new setting for the game), as well as the maniacal laugh of a sickly but very-much-alive Joker. The trailer also hints the appearance of other Batman villains Two-Face and The Penguin, which sounds pretty damned exciting.

Crackdown 2 -

Ruffian's Crackdown 2 also had a trailer on show, displaying some explosive city-wide annihilation as the Agents take out some serious rage issues on shedloads of mutants. The trailer shows off some of the new weapons for the game, as well as its expansive co-op mode, all played to the wonderfully black theme of "Would you like to blow shit up with me?"

Deadliest Warrior: The Game -

Also announcement was TV tie-in Deadliest Warrior: The Game, coming to XBLA in 2010. For any of you familiar with the show will know that the premise aims to scientifically prove the age-old conundrums like "who would win in a fight between a pirate and a knight?" A premise which seems like it could make an incredibly fun and bloody online fighter. I just hope that neither the IRA nor the Taliban are playable characters.

Green Day: Rock Band -

Surprisingly announced was the rumoured Green Day: Rock Band, seeing Harmonix applying the same love they did to The Beatles: Rock Band to the pop-punk American Idiots, covering two decades worth of their releases. Existing Green Day DLC will be playable in GD:RB, and yes, the entire tracklist will be exportable! The trailer shows the band talking about the game and introducing some in-game footage.

Halo: Reach -

Bungie's "first look" Halo: Reach trailer boasts some incredibly impressive visuals, showing a cutscene from the upcoming Halo prequel. The trailer doesn't reveal very much at all, other than what will probably be the protagonist of the game: a unnamed Spartan Lieutenant. Keep watching right to the end to see a fearsome Elite weilding his bad ass Energy Sword.

Medal of Honor -

The recently announced Medal of Honor (EA Announces New Medal of Honor) also had a trailer on show, bearing more than just a small resemblence to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Its explosive and fast-paced action do seem like a hell of a lot of fun though, and definitely packing some serious graphics behind it.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands -

Even more recently announced (Get Ready To Get Your Wall Run On Again!), Ubisoft's return to the Sands of Time trilogy sees a Jake Gyllenhaal look-a-like manipulating time and wall-running like a madman whilst being attacked by a desert. Or something... Very cool, movie-style trailer nonetheless.

Spec Ops: The Line -

Originally announced as a then-unnamed project back in August, this third-person modern military shooter - developed by German studio YAGER, published by 2K - is being described as "provocative and gripping" and "challenges' player morality by putting them in the middle of unspeakable situations where unimaginable choices affecting human life must be made."

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II -

Lucasarts announced their plans for the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed sequel, set again between the Episode III and IV films. The plot follows on from the first game, seeing you again play as Starkiller as he battles between the light and dark sides. All seems very Star Wars-y: the force, lightsabers, Yoda, Darth Vader, etc. What more do you need?

Tron: Evolution -

Tying in with the upcoming Tron Legacy movie, Disney announced the upcoming Tron videogame. The game will have the classic neon colour style and cycle racing that the original games typified. Other than that, details are slim. Other than this tasty little nugget: Olivia Wilde, who stars at Quorra in the film, will also feature in the game.

True Crime -

The third game in Activision's True Crime series sees the setting move to Hong Kong, with you playing as an undercover cop infiltrating the Triads. The setting for the open-world action game provides a vibrant neon cityscape perfectly offsetting the crazy brawling, car-jacking and perp-chasing action.

UFC Undisputed 2010 -

THQ's mixed martial arts brawler UFC Undisputed 2009 is getting a speedy sequel, hitting shelves May 25th. The game looks violent and brutal, which is obviously awesome. Check the trailer to see a couple famous faces introducing the new game.

After watching all of these ace trailers, I'm now just waiting for the "And Now, Our Feature Presentation" screen to pop up on my monitor...

Medal of Honor is my big hopeful on this list. As for Deadliest Warrior, that looks sketchy at best.

Is it bad if I'm not interested in any of these?

I guess I'm just not the industry's "target audience"

I don't find most of them particularly appealing, so I guess not.

Crackdown 2 Looked really awesome with all the mutants blowing up and flying, the new Batman game looks to be very interesting, Green Day Rock Band I'm still saying why to, Halo didn't really say anything, True Crime looks like it has a cool location now, and Medal of Honor looks to be more interesting than some of the other games from the series.
I endorse Fire.FM add on. http://www.last.fm/user/Miko00014

Batman AA: 2 is a must buy to me after I complete the first one. Game was just sensational. I might look into Medal of Honor, Deadliest Warrior, Spec Ops, and Halo Reach once they plummet in price.
We'll see.
