TA Gaming Stats - June 11th to June 17th 2012

Latest weekly game and achievement stats for TA members

Written by Dog of Thunder on 24 June 12 at 18:05

The dog days of summer are here early.

We have a few weeks of new retail releases here in late June and then a whole lot of nothing until Darksiders II. Thankfully, summer is when the XBLA titles start flying off the digital shelves and with the upcoming releases of Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD, Deadlight and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, this year will not be any different.

This report is for the period June 11th to June 17th 2012.

Games Started
16,763 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 25,174 games between them (1,581 different games).

Before we get to the dead zone of retail releases, we get to enjoy a few weeks with Lollipop Chainsaw on these charts. Just over 2k gamers for a weird, over-the-top hack and slash title? That to me, seems like a minor success.

While not a minor success at all, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is, nonetheless, suffering some backlash regarding server stability. Equally successful Max Payne 3 is also going through a period of critical backlash against it, as it sold fewer copies then Red Dead Redemption. Really? That's the Max Payne 3 backlash? It was a hit but not enough of a hit?

The rest of the chart is comprised of our usual suspects. My questioning why DiRT Showdown was so low the other week was answered in the comments. It's such a departure for the franchise, DiRT fans don't want to play it.

Top Retail Games Started

Babel Rising was released. You simply forgot about that right, or is the game really so dull and boring that no one wants to willingly play it? I won't feel bad for Ubisoft, who published Babel Rising, as one of their in-house titles, From Dust, was on sale and enough people bought TrueAchievements' Best Simulation Game of 2011 to bring it over 12k total gamers.

Don't feel bad for SEGA either, as three separate SEGA titles made the chart. I'd point them out, but I really hope you can crack this code yourself.

Top Arcade Games Started

http://www.trueachievements.com/game.aspx?gameid=4386! Final Fantasy! FINAL FANTASY!

Despite the fact that this version has been released a few times now on various platforms, we can only hope that they will bring over the other 8-bit Final Fantasy titles to the Windows Phone. I also have to wonder, how many of you made a party comprised of Fighter, Thief, Red Mage and Black Mage?

Top Windows Phone Games Started

Games Completed
6,142 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 8,612 games between them (1,130 different games).

Seventy gamers already completed Lollipop Chainsaw? I should know better by now, but it always amazes me how fast some people go through these games. Anyways, Battlefield 3 had the Premium DLC released this week, leading to its not-unexpected-at-all rise to the top of the chart.

Borderlands is back, perhaps from the recent DLC sale or perhaps because whenever a sequel is due out gamers will go back and finish previous titles in a franchise.

Top Retail Games Completed

Check out how low these numbers are for this week. All it took for Fez to chart was 30 gamers. That's all. Since only 26.29% of the thousands that have started Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition have finished it, we can expect to see it week after week after week after week.

Top Arcade Games Completed

Feed Me Oil (WP) is still steadily being completed thanks to the Oil Spiller achievement being fixed. The rest of the chart we should be used to at this point, though it will be some time before enough people finish Final Fantasy for it to actually chart.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Achievements Won
45,370 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 538,771 achievements online between them (44,147 different achievements).

Lollipop Chainsaw and the latest DLC for Battlefield 3 split the chart. I love the 1,550 of you that 'accidentally' moved the camera...

Top Retail Achievements Won

REALLY!? AGAIN!? When will the madness end!?

Top Arcade Achievements Won

Wow, five separate games made this chart. Wordament (WP) is holding on quite well, especially compared to later releases.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Total TrueAchievements won by Genre

Simulation drops further and further each week. I don't foresee a major shake up in the order of genres for the next few weeks until Darksiders II hits retail shelves.

Once again, we're going to roll things back with a TA Stats Flashback from June 13th to June 19th, 2011. This time last year, we celebrated the worldwide releases of Duke Nukem Forever, Alice: Madness Returns and Child of Eden.

29,606 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 52,926 games between them (1,387 different games).

Top Retail Games Started

Kinect Fun Labs were very popular still after E3 2011 and so was the second entry in what is now an annual franchise. Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 would go on to win the award for TrueAchievements' 2011 Card and Board Game of the Year.

Top Arcade Games Started

6,203 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 8,945 games between them (922 different games).

Fallout: New Vegas used to be a constant presence on this chart, while Portal 2 hung on for most of 2011.

Top Retail Games Completed

Oh Kinect Fun Labs, back when they were all free. Who didn't like the easy gamerscore and the easy completion?

Top Arcade Games Completed

52,119 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 785,519 achievements online between them (37,073 different achievements).

I'm still amused that Turd Burglar made its way onto the TrueAchievement front page. Take note of the amount of times these achievements were won last year. It's very clear what the impact of less frequent releases is having on people's playing habits just one year later.

Max Payne 3 sucks tbh. (I've played through the first few levels on PS3.) And the AI is just annoying I mean how hard is it for your ally AI to hit the enemy, impossible it seems.

So taking that into account i'm surprised it came third, though I am glad Chainsaw Lollipop came top as that game is pure win.

Max Payne 3 is VERY story orientated and since when has AI been helpful in almost any shooter ever. LOL
But how many many people clicked on that achievement to see what it was LOL X3

AI can help a lot. Take call of duty on veteran. When your allies don't push up it gets hard. When they do push up for you it gets a lot easier. Most of the time they would push up though.

It's nice to see an Xbox 360 game that I get on Day 1 make it to the top of the Games Started chart. Also, that particular achievement on Lollipop Chainsaw for looking underneath Juliet's skirt appearing on the Achievements Won chart was very expected.

Max Payne doesn't hold a candle to RDR. It's not that it wasn't enough of a hit, but I was actually quite nonplussed by the story. It was good, but not great, and with high expectations that equals disappointment in my book. The MP is a lot better, but I play games primarily for the SP.

(No, it was no DNR, but it just didn't feel... as compelling. Maybe it's just me, but I expect better from Rockstar.)

wink

Dog, is there any way to put a giant neon-colored header above the Flashback stats? Otherwise, I see this being a weekly occurrence. Amusing, but it has the potential to get old very quickly...

Or you hate to be the person that I am currently tracking through the super secret TA Satellite and will be dispatching a pack of angry Pomeranians to your door with the instructions to rend you limb from limb?

Before I forget, please allow the Pomeranians to enter your apartment/house/place of residence, as they can not reach the door knob.
