EURO 2012 is entering the final stages and today the EA SPORTS team has revealed via Twitter the cover art for the upcoming iteration of the FIFA franchise, FIFA 13. The cover design seems to have deviated from previous iterations. Wayne Rooney, who had been featured on the cover since the days of FIFA 06, leaves his place to Lionel Messi, who also graced the cover of FIFA Street.

Might as well make the most of their Messi licence eh? Would be funny if people mistook this for a PES game from the box cover.

Messi will also be featured in every screenshot on the back cover, the disc, the manual and the main menu.

About time Wazza got booted. He's just as "herpaderp" as Messi, if not more so. Though I think FIFA would be better served to change up the featured player *EVERY* year, as the Madden (and NCAA) "throwball" franchises do.

Well they do different covers for different regions. They will put more players than messi on the front. Messi being the main star was obvious.

Can't wait for the game.

They do alot of different versions. I live in Bolton but I'm from Manchester and we had a choice of BWFC, MUFC and MCFC. All seperate designs.

Bit gutted to see Rooney's reign to come to an end but it seemed inevitable once Messi was signed by EA.

From what I heard on the EA E3 conference, he will be the only player on the cover in every region the game is sold.

I suggested it news story here in TA yesterday morning, but as you said - looks like no one cares. Not gonna buy it though, -25% is next to nothing.

I hope they discount -50% during semi-finals, and give it free during final.

You get it ? You need to pay 50 € just to get new names in it.
I paid 5 € for my 6 year old PES, a 1000 G is a 1000 G.
There are no new Graphics or Phisics....just Licenses, thats what FIFA is, since the first FIFA.

A break of 2 Years would be good.
And support the current Games via Update with new updateded Teams.
And do a major release every 2 year, with new Graphic and Phisics and so on.
Then, the EA Pass would make even somekind of a sense.

So are you saying the FIFA series hasn't changed?
FIFA has been around since 1993 so saying that It hasn't changed Graphically is an outrages statement.

Also bringing it out every year is a good thing for many reasons.

For example, when Paul Scholes came out of retirement they couldn't add him to the game as he wasn't in the database, so with a yearly game they can add/remove players.

It also allows them to make small tweaks to the game which impact it in a huge way. Like in FIFA 13 you can now customise free-kicks, it might sound stupid but it will become a big part of the game.

I played FIFA 2003 a few days ago with my brother and it has changed so much its unreal!

On FIFA 2003 you couldn't even do skill! That is now one of the key features.

Also look at FUT (Fifa Ultimate Team) Many people said it was stupid and unneeded but it is ow the most played game type and it generates Millions for EA.

There is also Head2Head and Online Friendlies now, Small changes that made a big difference. Before if you played a ranked match and lost it was no big deal, now if you lost you run the risk of being relegated into a lower league and playing with friends on FIFA has never had this big of a risk, if you win enough games you win the season (aswell as bragging rights)

To be honest FIFA has changed alot over the last 5 or so years alone!

I feel sports games need to be released every year, its hard to explain but it feels like they should.

Other games shouldn't though, it makes the companies seem like they are money hungry, atleast with sports titles it's justifiable why they are doing it.
