Spelunky Release Date Trailer

Spelunky Release Date Trailer

Random levels: bad in real life, good in games

Written by ChewieOnIce on 27 June 12 at 08:36

The last time we caught wind of some Spelunky news was just over a year ago when we brought you a debut trailer and then...nothing.

Well, today marks a sharp turnaround on the news front as we can now not only bring you a new trailer, but also a release date for the upcoming XBLA platformer.

Spelunky is a popular indie game by Mossmouth that was originally released as freeware in 2008 for PC. As the trailer shows, the catch is that every time you restart, the level is randomly generated, making for a unique experience every time you play. The XBLA version was the recipient of the 'Excellence in Design' award in this year's Independent Games Festival and will include leaderboards, and multiplayer co-op and deathmatch modes.

Spelunky will be digging its way onto XBLA on July 4th.

I wonder how hardcore these achievements are. If they happen to be hard, then it'll make it a pretty rare and large TA ratio on those difficult achievements on this upcoming game. I'll see if it happens. :)

Is the 1200 MSP price confirmed somewhere? Because this game is awesome but I won't be paying that just for online play.

I have to say I really like the look of this. Not sure where everyone is getting the price from as I couldn't see it anywhere but 1200MSP still doesn't equate into a lot of money for a decent game! From what I've seen the free PC version and the XBLA version are two very separate things.
Does this smell like chloroform to you?

I don't care, the original game was amazing as well, and the fact that this one will have its own hand-painted graphics and extra neat features will make this an instant buy for me! My friend and I were talking about this game a couple days ago, basically wondering how long it would take, and now it's here!

I honestly can't wait! :D

It should be said on news that though it was free on pc, there is lots of new stuff.

As news said: "will include leaderboards, and multiplayer co-op and deathmatch modes."
Hope co-op is over live and not only local.

spelunkyworld.com web page:
"It's much more than a port of the original game, and has new graphics, music, zones, monsters, items, traps, and secrets. The controls are much smoother, too, and designed specifically for the gamepad."

Those who still complain, just play it on pc. Or go and buy pc and play your free game.

From what I've seen the free PC version and the XBLA version are two very separate things. This guy who created Spelunky hasn't made a dime off it, after years. It's about time he does, for all of his hard work he's done on it (and along with the work he's done on other free games). Also, the XBLA version has been described as a "sequel" to the original free PC version, so it's not a straight-up port.
